Lighting that fire under my fanny!

How is it that just listening to someone speak can motivate you to "Take on the World."  With all of the negative media and friends/family questioning the market every single day, it can kind of get you in a mood... and not a happy, doing cartwheels around the house mood.

Yes, it seems as though everyone is moving a little slower- buyers, sellers, banks- well, I guess some of the banks are just giving up and shutting the doors all together.  I just received news from a couple of friends who live in Spain that they pretty much just lost about $20,000,000.  What!!!  $20,000.000.

So, I guess it is all around us now and everyone will start to panick and make it ten times worse- now what?  How do I get up, get dressed and put on my "happy face."

It seems as though my broker always knows just the right time to give us a little pep talk and swift little kick in the rear.  We have weekly meetings at which times he is very positive and throws some excitement out there to get us going, but he has an Ace of Spades he keeps in his pocket for necessary intervention.

ERA has a special training program as I am sure other companies do.  It is called Top Gun and is taught by Dan Elzer- I beleive he travels all over to teach this 8 week course.  From the first day, he gets you going like Indiana Jones- ready to take on the world.

Dan is not overbearing nor loudly annoying- just intellegent and engaging.  The basis of the class is to hold you accountable.. so your prospecting and etc.. is written down and turned in.  Seriously, after the first two classes- I wanted to sneak out and not come back- but I stuck it out and was glad I did.

That was approximately 6 months ago and I have let some of the important lessons I learned fly out the window.

At our meeting the other day- guess who was speaking?  It was Dan.  Yep, you guessed it, I left 3 hours later ready to take on the world again.  It all boils down to writing down your to do list the night before and following through, keeping up with the prospecting and you know the rest.....

It just amazes me that even though you already know what and how to work, just having someone type up a nice accountability sheet and go over it with you, remind you  a little of a few good techniques and give you that little push can make you think you are super"woman" or "man" and give you just the edge you need.

I think I am going to put Dan on speed dial..maybe he can give me a recorded wake-up call.

Accountability is a powerful and necessary thing. It's too bad that so many people are wrapped up in their own problems to let someone else hold them accountable. Very few people have the self-discipline to remain diligent, without someone else encouraging them and holding them accountable for their actions and their time.

Tina,

Thanks for the post. We need those reminders occasionally. This coaching comes at a good time as we prepare our business plans for 2009.

Our company sponsors a speaker every few months or so, and the morning often includes a panel of experts and/or a presentation on great business tips.  We had one of these sessions yesterday and it was great!  I'm glad to get these periodic boosts - they are fun and we actually learn quite a bit.
