Palm Beach Gardens was founded in 1959 by John D. MacArthur, who had a vision of gradual, methodical growth, tempered by a respect for the city's lush land. Just over 54 square miles, Palm Beach Gardens offers beautiful tree-lined streets, environmentally protected land, easy beach access, family-friendly neighborhoods, plenty of great restaurants, an abundance of shopping, five city parks, three sports complexes, and two community centers. In fact the city's Parks and Recreation Department was honored in 1989 with a National Gold Medal Award for its programs. The city is also the headquarters for the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The city bills itself as the "Golf Capital of the World," and there are 12 golf courses within the city limits including a course owned by the municipality. Several PGA tournaments have been hosted in Palm Beach Gardens since 1971. The Honda Classic will be hosted in March 2007 at PGA National and it was hosted at the Country Club at Mirasol in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Ameribank and Wackenhut also have their headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens. The Gardens Mall and Downtown at the Gardens are the center of the city's retail market.

For cultural stimulation, residents can access the Eissey Center at Palm Beach Community College's north campus, which showcases regular live performances.

Palm Beach Gardens' residents benefit from the city's natural beauty and a wealth of activities. Palm Beach Gardens is truly on the move with many new subdivisions and planned communities that make it one of the fastest growing communities in South Florida.
