Ok, the question of the day is... Do accountability groups work? If you don't know what an accountability group is, let me explain. It's a group of people who get together and yell at each other until everyone does what they're supposed to do. Well, sort of. The idea is kind of like having a work out partner. If you have someone waiting for you at the gym, you're more likely to go. And yes, they work. As a matter of fact, this blog post is proof that they work. Tomorrow, my accountability group is meeting at 10:30 in the morning, and I set a goal last week of having my first blog posted by the meeting. So, guess what? Here I am at 8:30 at night writing my blog, trying to get it done before the debate.
Here are a few tips for setting up an accountability group:
•1. Choose people for your group that you know will be hard on you. No Nice People Allowed!
•2. Make the group relatively small...4-5 people is the perfect size.
•3. There should be a consequence if the goals aren't met. A good idea would be to have everyone write a check to someone they really don't like and the check only gets mailed if they don't follow through. (An ex husband is especially motivating!)
•4. Be honest. It's a waste of everyone's time if you say you're doing things that you're not.
•5. Keep your meetings brief. Make sure everyone is on track with their goals and GET BACK TO WORK!
Have a great week and good luck getting things done!
