If you are working for a customer but don't know the area well enough to help them, refer them to someone who could. It might seem like you are loosing a paycheck, but they are going to know that you truly had their best interest in mind. You might loose one client in your real estate business, but will be rewarded with many more clients.

One of the key methods used to build your real estate referral network is first to provide superior customer service.

Does it stop here? No. Don't forget to ask for referrals. You are not begging for  real estate business, but earned that right to ask because of the outstanding service you provided.

Gail- You are right about referring business. We love to refer our buyers out since we don't work with buyers. Before we hired our buyers agent we just referred all the buyers to local agents here, Of course they loved us! And we had a nice second stream of income going on.
