Higher Gas prices!! How is this factor going to effect your business.

I filled up today and paid $2.69 per gallon. This is the highest since Katrina in 2005. I drive about 15,000 miles per year most doing real estate in a rather compact area. I am wondering when it is going to effect prices on homes and condos. i have already seen a trend in New Orleans for people to live close to work. A New Orleans native hates a more then 30 minute commute. Its just not something we do not like to do. It will not effect my driving for a while. if I could ride a bike to work I would, but its unlikely that that would work in this business.

This is the bridge to Sugar cane country on the Mississippi River. Sugar Cane can be converted into ethanol in a far more efficient degree than corn. Why do not we take advantage of this in the USA, reason?

Ride a bike to sell real estate, what's wrong with that? ;)

Gas prices are supposed to go up even higher in the Summer, and I believe California is already seeing prices in the $3 range.  It's unfortunately that we have to go through this, and that my weekly fill-up fluctuates by $5-10, to which I have no control over.

In Los Angeles we are paying 3.15 a gallon, and that is the cheap stuff.

Beth, you guys drive much more in the golden state than we do. The money starts adding up on the longer commutes in those pick ups.

Geesh, I was going to say I filled up and paid $2.91 but after reading the comments!  Why are these prices so high?

I remember (years ago:) when we had to do odd even gas linse because we were "running out of gas", Well that was some 30 years ago and we didn't run out. So I ask again, Why are these prices so high?

Time to rebel.

To answer your question, I meet my guys at my office, we go on a previously agreed upon and mapped out list by appointment. Shortest way from point to point and in a circle so we end up back where we started.

Best I can do for now.

Its supply and demand. We as a country have elected not to find oil here or work on alternative entergy choices. We tend to live for now and want the next group to work it out. We tend to elect people who react to issues rather think about the future. Thats who you need to rebel against.

Eric,

Talking to the choir here. Believe me!!!!!  I just threw that out to check for followers!  I can't seem to find any. Not like the old days!  Although I do see the colleges starting to perk up a bit.

Interesting post, Eric.  This whole ethanol thing baffles me, as well.  It turns out that the price of corn is so high now, they are saying that the price of anything that feeds on corn (chicken, beef, pork) is going to go through the roof.  Ditto other crops (soybeans, etc.) which are not being planted now in favor of corn.  The law of unintended consequences.  How about an actual fuel conservation strategy?  Renewable energy sources that make sense?

A lot of people will make money off of this. I am amazed that sugar cane and the rest of the crops have not been included. It is about politics more than science. I believe we should be getting the majority our power from Nuclear entergy. I believe we can drill for oil off the caost of Florida and California. Why let certain states take all the burden. Its OK if it not in your backyard mentality.

Hi Eric,

Like a few of the others, I'm one of those in CA. Fortunately for me, I could walk to my office, if I didn't use my car during the day. Like Karen, I too remember the odd & even days and trying to schedule property showings back then.

Now I actually find that I'm showing far fewer homes to each and every client. Since they're able to view so many online, they have ruled out many of them in advance.

Oh, last fill up was $3.11 for me.

Eric, $2.59 here. Those new fan-dangled gas saving two seater's won't work in this business either. I find that SUV's are the perfect realtor's vehicle.

Eric...Hmmm corn vs. sugar cane. Could it be political? I mean we know how much pull you Louisianians have...NOT

I agree about the Nuclear there has been an awful lot of talk about it lately and energy costs plus climate change are almost making it look like a better alternative!

And what is up with those hybrid cars?? Who the heck can afford them??

Joan, you are right. Take the tax off the imported sugar cane ethanol from Brazil. it something like 30 cents a gallon. Most sugar cane farmers are not big farmers and tend to be family growers. Hybrids still use entergy from other sources. there should be entergy in falling rain,we have plenty of that. Eric

Eric..in addition to your statement about California and Florida....why are we still not drilling in the Antarctic? Also I realize environment wise it won't look as good (the views) but why don't he have thousands of wind turbines off the west /east coast and the gulf of Mexico? I also agree with you on the Nuclear power.
