Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages in Pacific Beach - A Very Cool Place to Stay

Pacific Beach is a very cool beach town just south of trendy, affluent La Jolla and in the city of San Diego.

Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages in Pacific Beach, San DiegoI am getting to like this San Diego beach community more and more as I learn about it and spend time there (I have a 4-plex listing there so the side benefit is time in Pacific Beach, about 20 miles from Carlsbad). I am watching the market for some friends who are interested in buying, too, so hanging out and getting the lay of the land, so to speak, is a good thing. So if you are interested in Pacific Beach real estate and homes for sale, give me a call.

If you are looking for a very cool place to stay (perhaps a vacation or just a special night away), and a bit of history, why not camp out at the Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages.

You can, literally, sleep over the crashing waves and the beach right in the heart of Pacific Beach.

Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages in Pacific Beach, San DiegoHistoric Crystal Pier was created in 1927 and offers studios (with kitchen, deck and parking), and 1 or 2 bedroom units (with kitchens and deck plus room to park 1 car) over the beach and ocean, with suites in the building on shore.

The pier units are all, literally, separate cottages, and you can enjoy fantastic views of the ocean, the coast, sunsets and all the goings-on on land from your private deck. And given the central location you can walk to lots of restaurants and shopping, or bring home take-out and hang on the deck while the sun sets, and the tides rolls in or out below. How cool is that?

Prices range from $165 - $365 on weekdays per night in winter, and $175 - $400 per night on weekends; summer rates, as expected, are higher from 6/15 through 9/30 and range from $205 - $500. This is a non-smoking hotel.

For more (and better) photos and information, stop by Crystal Pier Hotel and Cottages website.

Cute cottages, Jeff!  Do they actually let you drive your car onto the pier?

Oh wow. They have homes actually built on the pier? I've never seen anything like that. Actually, I think I'd be petrified, but then I am on the east coast. I'm used to hurricane warnings. LOL And I just saw Patricia's question. That's a good question. Does the pier support the weight of vehicles?

Patricia - they do indeed. There were cars parked outside the cottages (on the interior of the pier) when I was there taking pics. They allow 1 per unit.

Lisa - yes, it works. I suppose it is no different than the wooden bridges that exist. A sever storm many years ago tore away a couple of hundred feet of the pier but all in all it has remained mostly intact.

Love the cottages on Crystal Pier!  I recall that there were more cottages at the end of the pier that were washed away during a severe storm years ago.  A great place to stay and where else, other than Tahiti, can you stay in an overwater bungalow?

Jeff - this sounds like California's version of the Bali cottages that are out over the water. They seem much higher than in Bali - is that because of the size of the waves?

Sharon S - interesting you should mention them .I thought about those very cottages when writign this. Yep, the ocean can be pretty fierce.

Wendy - I hope to stay there one day even tho' I live here. WOuld be a cool thing to do.

Jeff - well I agree with you on that one.

Sharon L - yes, that is my understanding. I think there are some places in the Caribbean too that are over the water. Probably a few other exotic places as well - hmmm, perhaps a search on the Travel and Leisure site, or Conde Nast.
