Am I in control

I don't know if this will strike a chord in most of you, but it hit me this morning how hard we struggle to control our time, our lives, our weight, or job.  The problem is that I often feel that I'm one of those greyhound dog's in one of those florida dog races.  I keep on chasing the bait, but like those dog's I keep running faster and faster and never seem to ever accomplish everything I need to do each day.

I then thought of my youth.  I live in Utah and we love to ski in the greatest snow on earth! (sorry for the plug).  Anyway, when I was about 9 or 10 I learned how to ski.  A couple of my friends learned allot faster then me and it was irratating to say the least.  But these friends had that reckless abandon and lack of fear of the slopes.  Fairly soon my best friend was flying down triple diamond black runs and I was still figuring out how to turn from side to side.  I asked him how he learned so fast and his response was, "Didn't even think about learning, just pointed my ski's down the hill and remembered that others get down this hill all the time."   Now 25 years later I think about his words and it hit a chord with me this morning.  Maybe it's more about getting out the door and just pointing your ski's down the hill.  Perhaps we should concentrate on getting started instead of just talking about it.

I think instruction and education is still important in everything we do in our lives, but perhaps if we had that "black diamond" hill attitude about our lives then the rest would begin taking care of itself. I've been training a number of Loan Officers lately and I've noticed that the best marketers are the ones who simply get in the game.

So now it's time to strap on those ski's and grit my teeth and instead of attempting to control my life just get started living it!!  Maybe it will be painfull but what the heck, life isn't as dangerous as a black diamond run at Deer Valley ski resort!

You know, Karl.  Here's what I've learned (and I break the rules all of the time).  TAKE THE1003 AND GET THE CUSTOMER TO COMMIT TO SOMETHING.

I used to say, "If I could wave a magic wand and get you the rate and terms you wanted...what would that be?"  Then I'd put it on a 1003, chuckle, and say, this is ABSOLUTELY crazy but I'll put this in front of an underwrter if you sign the 1003.

I found that customers weren't as crazy as I thought and the "counteroffers" I received were usually received.

Write 1003s in this market, write 1003s in this market, write 1003s in this market

Right on Karl.  Just get in the game!  Be a player not a spectator.  You'll fall down...but just get back up.  Success is not in never failing...but in rising every time you fail.
