Patterned after the world famous Tour de France, the Tour of Missouri race featured point to point racing in six stages, as more than 120 world-class cyclists traversed or great state, covering more than 600 miles. Other cities that were selected to play host to either the start and/or finish of the race were: St. Joseph, Kansas City, Clinton, Springfield, Branson, Rolla, St. James, Herrman, Jefferson City, St. Charles, and St. Louis.
I had the fabulous opportunity to volunteer for the Lebanon portion of the Tour. My job was to help escoet 450 students from the local elementary school to the starting line at the Cowan Civic Center. I had a blast! Seeing the racers zoom by at 20 miles an hour was incredible and of course standing in a crowd of 450 4th and 5th graders who are all screaming at the top of their lungs was........great!
