I had a wonderful opportunity to attend the local Realtor Foundation Follies, the 3rd annual, and was incredibly surprised by the lack of Realtor participation. This foundation provides monies to local groups who request financial asistance. All the money is donated. All help is volunteer. The event was sponsored by title companies, lenders and miscellaneous real estate support companies. It is a 3 hour event held, this year, at the local community college and provided hors dehourvers and local musical talent in addition to a few local realtors in a talent event that is certainly comedy.
Money is tight right now but these events, sponsored by our dependable support industries and targeted at providing money for other small businesses in the local area, is a great opportunity to show our community support and to network.
I have watched several local volunteer groups go under and that is a sad thing for sure. The local lenders, title clompanies, inspection companies, builders and miscellaneous service providers who financially support these efforts, see the long term investment benefits and put their person time into continuing the efforts to provide financial support to them.
These are great networking opportunities and a way to put a few dollars by the few into the community succsses of the many.
When you get the opportunity to participate, select your opportunity of interest and participate. You can't grow your lead/referrral contacts more easily.
My first year in the business, I didn't participate in these group functions. However, as time goes by, I have learned to appreciate and actively participate.
Even in these financially challenging days, remember those things that can be done easily, particiaption in a group event with proceeds invested in those more needy.
