Nosey Neighbor or...?

Nosey Neighbor or...Good Friend?

Recently on another forum someone posted saying "I don't know whether to shoot myself or go bowlingCommunity Huddle".  I didn't think anything of it at the time, but noticed later that week that there was an argument going on.

It seems that this person posted the same thing a few days later in another post.  I had no idea that a book about the shooting at Columbine had been written.  So when this person had written it again, a friend of mine called the local authorities and asked them to check on them.

The person writing this suicide type post was EXTREMELY angry...sent out posts announcing that they had a good laugh with the authorities and how DARE anyone call the cops on him/her.

As I sit back and look at this, from my perspective, shooting yourself is not an appropriate thing to post.  With all the suicides and school/work shootings, is this something to joke about?  I applaud my friend for having the gumption to make certain this person was okay.

Do you think my friend was being a nosey neighbor or a good friend?

It sounds like the person may have been making a senceless joke. If so, that's terrible. And they were laughing about it with the police??!! I hope that's not how it went down.

I think Imus is finding out that words do hurt... I believe that comes into our blogging world too.   You can't scream "fire!" in a public place if there's no fire... you shouldn't be allowed to cry wolf here either.  I think we need to take what people say and do more seriously and they should be responsible not to abuse our good nature.

Julie-I agree that may have been what happened, but at what point do we take someone serious.  With everything in the news lately, don't we (all people) know better than to say things like that?

Bob-I agree that Imus might be learning his lesson.  I also agree that we should take people more seriously.  I just don't seem to be certain at what point to take action.

Theresa-One of the things I have learned in life if someone acts, speaks or sounds like suicide, you need to act.  See I know personally I suffered two losses (2 separate occasions) in the same year.  Although I had no idea, other's did. Those 2 events changed my life forever.  Regardless of whether it is a mere threat or real, PLEASE, do yourself a favor and don't take it lightly, Act!  What if it was actual and your friend read about it, knowing she did nothing of it!  She would have had to live with that.  I would have done the same thing if I were your friend in the same situation.  Your friend is a good person, personally tell her from me, she did good, she might have saved a life!
