What makes a Realtor - Business Darwinism - survival of the fittest.

Years ago I coined the term “Business Darwinism”.  In the ever evolving business world, if you don’t evolve to the market, you become extinct.

In real estate, a few classes, pass an exam or two, then find a sympathetic broker to let you hang your license with and you are in business.  That is not a very high barrier to entry to start a professional career.

In most areas of the country, there are not very high fees to maintain a license (continuing education, MLS dues, local and NAR association dues, E&O insurance) so the drop out rate isn’t that high.  However, this year, it appears that most associations are down about 15 – 20 percent of their members.

It doesn’t take a lot to “create” a Realtor logo; however, to have that Realtor evolve into a top producing member of our society, they need to work, continue their education crs logo, get involved, network, and give back to our organization and their community in general.

Jim, good post - I would add to your above that they must remain relevant and change with the times.  Many Realtors do not utilize the internet as effectively as they could.  Some do little to nothing.
