All Gave Some.....Some Gave All
As a former Navy Reservist, I personally know the sacrifices of today's reservists. No longer is the reserves a one weekend a month, two weeks a year gig. Today's reservists are serving alongside America's active duty soldiers in some of the most dangerous places in the world.
Maj. Dwayne M. Kelley a 1978 graduate of Kennedy High School in Willingboro and more recently a resident of South Orange, was killed in action during his third tour of duty by an explosion in Sadr City, Iraq, in June. Maj. Kelley, A U.S. Army Reservist and a decorated detective sergeant with the New Jersey State Police, Kelley served in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
Friday, October 10, 2008, Fort Dix hosted a ceremony renaming the post's Pemberton Access Gate in honor of Maj. Kelley, who was killed while serving in Iraq.
Kelley's wife, Manita, attended the ceremony, along with Kelley's friends and family, military personnel and state troopers from across the state. Pemberton Township Mayor David Patriarca and Pemberton Township school Superintendent Dr. Michael Gorman was also present.
In addition, a bronze plaque mounted on a stone just inside the gate bears a relief portrait of Kelley with the inscription: "An American hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and the nation of Iraq. Maj. Dwayne M. Kelley was a caring husband, father, son,
brother and friend."
Maj. Kelley, I salute you and I thank you for your service to our great country.
