Huntington Lake CabinA good friend of mine just purchased a cabin in Huntington Lake (photo left). NO, I did not participate in the transaction; he bought the property for-sale-by-owner directily from the owner. From what I know of the transaction though, it appears he got a screaming good deal.

This weekend a group of us when up to help him do a little work on it. I'll admit I didnt do too much work butHunting Lake Cabin overlooking the lake my son Joshua made up for what little I contributed. Another friend of ours happens to also own a cabin up there and she we gracious enough to allow us to use it for the weekend (photo right)

It was pretty warm this weekend in Fresno but as you can see from the images it was snowing at Huntington Lake. Sunday morning I walked along the lake and took the picturees below.

Huntington Lake is in the high Sierras approx 1 3/4 hour drive from central Fresno at approx 7000 ft above sea level. All the cabins around the lake are on forest service land which is leased not owned. At any given time there is generally only a few of these cabins for sale. If you would be interested in information on availbility of cabins in the area, just call me or emai me

Hello Randy,

My husband has been going up to Huntington Lake since he was 8, and is a dream of ours of owning a cabin up there but it doesn't seem practical.  Maybe you could explain the land leases.  I know they used to be 20 year leases and they changed to 10 year leases.  Do you know why?  If they choose not to renew the lease on the property your house sits on do they purchase the house?  I know alot of the cabins are not accessible during the winter months so basically your expense of owning a cabin in those ares, which is of course where we would want to buy, is pretty high since you can only use it for 6 months.  Does anyone rent there cabins out for those six months each year?  We will be making a trip up there this coming weekend to look around and dream.  My husband feels we can't afford it I am not sure I can argue with him.  We currently live in the Lake Arrowhead area and it is our dream to live on Huntington Lake.  Thanks for your time and help in giving us information that make it possible to be comfortable with the expense.
