Airmen/Soldiers/Sailors assigned to the northwest panhandle of Florida know all too well how lucky they are! We have sugary white sandy beaches with warm Gulf waters. In fact, the snowbirds that come down for the winter have no problem swimming in the Gulf of Mexico as they find it very warm. Festivals abound in our area, too, so there's always something to do. There's the Greek Festival, more than one Seafood Festival, Shrimp Festival, Peanut Festival, Sausage Festival along with numerous arts and crafts festivals throughout the year. Pensacola Beach often has free concerts on the beach with dancing and live bands.
Lots of military assigned to Eglin and Hurlburt live in Navarre -- just 10 minutes or less to the beach. Others find you get more house for the money in Crestview and Milton but of course it is much more of a 'hike' to the beach. Probably the most expensive homes for those assigned to the Navy base (PNAS) are found in Gulf Breeze -- again 10 minutes or less to the beach. Other possibilities for your home search are in Pace (Santa Rosa County) and of course Pensacola (Escambia County).
What else is there? Of course there is golf and the best deals for golfing are of course right on the base! But that's another blog. . .
