My dog Rocky
Lately I've had some frustration with clients who "just want to look". I understand someone wanting to get aquainted with an area first, I am not talking about those people. I am talking about the career lookers. They are always looking for the better deal, or the next market adjustment, or an interest rate drop or some other reason now is not the time for them. It takes awhile to recognize that they are going to become career lookers and so the time wasting goes...
Every morning, I take my dog out to do his business and watch him sniff around for awhile. When I say, "C'mon Rock-o," he comes charging in so fast it makes me laugh. He immediately runs to his dish (where a treat is to be given) and looks at me expectantly. He is so positive he will receive it without fail. Even if I make a detour and do laundry first, he sits and waits...
This is the way I'd like my real estate career to work. I want to go out, take care of business and like clockwork expect my reward. I'd love for every time I spend hours putting together lists to show, previewing property, sending out emails, flyers; etc. to result in the ultimate reward of putting buyers and sellers together in perfect harmony to result in my much deserved "treat".
I recognize that I will have to continue to work on my knowledge and skills for making the deal come together. I will have to work on my qualifying buyers BEFORE I spend hours with them in my car while they window shop. Then, I need to work on my patience since my potential client may have just taken a detour.Last, I realize that some people are just lookers and not buyers and I should cut them loose. That is the hardest for me, but I am a work in progress.
