Midtown Clean Up

MNA Clean-Up Committee Helping to Keep Midtown Attractive for Residents and Visitors

ATLANTA - In an effort to keep Historic Midtown clean and beautiful, the Midtown Neighbors' Association (MNA) Clean-Up Committee has implemented a volunteer litter pick-up program and is raising funds for placement of additional trash cans.

Formed in 2006 with 4 volunteers, the Clean-Up Committee has expanded its force to eight street captains and teams with over 30 volunteers. The goal is to eventually have a captain and team for each street in Midtown. The teams meet the first Saturday of each month to pick up litter and to assist with other clean-up efforts such as street sign cleaning, street sign topper installation, and graffiti removal. Volunteers are dressed in matching t-shirts and each team is provided gloves and trash bags.   New volunteers are given a free t-shirt that features the MNA logo and clean-up slogan "For a cleaner Midtown".

The current eight street teams include: Piedmont Ave., Myrtle St., Monroe Dr., 10th St., Charles Allen, Argonne St. 1, Argonne St. 2, and Wilsonian.

Midtown Neighbor's AssociationThe MNA Clean-Up Committee, working with the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Management, has secured a total of 17 new wire trash cans since 2006. Each trash can costs approximately $1,000 and is banded to show it was provided by MNA. A portion of the proceeds from MNA's annual Tour of Homes each spring is allocated to help pay for the new trash cans. The 2009 home tour is scheduled for April 4 and 5.

"We believe that keeping our sidewalks and streets liter-free sends a strong message to everyone that we believe a clean neighborhood is a safer neighborhood." - Mary Grace Albuna MNA Clean up Committee Chair.

About MNA:

Founded in the late 1960s, the Midtown Neighbors' Association (MNA) is a not-for-profit organization composed of businesses and residents. The MNA, completely managed and operated by volunteers, strives to develop solutions that continually improve Midtown's safety and quality of life with the goal of making it a better place to live and work. The organization annually sponsors the Midtown Tour of Homes and Midtown Shop & Dine Week. For more information, visit www.midtownatlanta.org.

NOTE: I'm on the Board of Directors for MNA and serve at the Membership Chairman. If you are NOT involved in your community, be it Midtown Atlanta, or where ever you live, consider it. Afterall, it's YOUR community! And a great way to get to know your neighbors!

Thom, great job at working together to keep Atlanta beautiful.  I just came through down town last week and was amazed at the wonderful changes that I saw.  I use to work on 14th street and I barely recognized it as I went by.
