Are you a Believer?

By
Real Estate Agent with On the Move

As I sit in Heine Bros coffee shop trying to catch up on some needed website maintenance I notice folks walking in and out, all with their own stories.  I bet if we took a poll and questioned them about their experiences with buying or selling their homes we would get an earful, both positive and negative.  I started to think about what I can do to ensure that if my clients were to be asked they would have only positive things to say about their transactions with me.   I am a firm believer that it is all about attitude and how we choose to percieve the situation.  If we enter the transaction from a place of fear and negativity then that is how the transaction will usually be remembered.  If we look at the real estate market collectively from this same place.....well I'm not implying that our thoughts can change the market, I am saying that it can influence our daily lives and the our own sense of satisfaction!

I continue to hold to the fact that it is not as bad as the pundants would have us believe.  Houses are selling every single day and new houses are entering the market as well allowing for a nice inventory to choose from.  Being somewhat a rookie to this I hear stories of the times when you would just put a sign in the yard and the phone would ring off the hook and you would have multiple offers.  Please don't think that I wouldn't like that scenario because I would, however that has not been my experience.  From the time I signed with my broker I have worked hard every day for every house listed and sold.  And I have had 100% success!  Note: I did not say that every house I have listed I have sold or that every buyer I have had has resulted in a sale.  What has happened is I have learned something with every single transaction.  Coming from a corporate environment and entering the real estate market when everyone said not to do it has been the best move I have made, ever.

I was talking with a friend last night after listing a home and she asked how I liked Real Estate....well you guess what I told her!

So how do I keep my positive attitude?

  • Every night and every morning I say a thank you to the highest power for my life
  • I surround myself with others who think in a positive manner
  • I try to learn something new every day (this one is not difficult)
  • I look at real estate as a way to help people and improve others life satisfaction, not my own personal ATM
  • I smile and laugh as much as possible
  • I look for the magical in life and enjoy nature and my animals
  • I dream, yes at my ripe old age I still do dream
  • I honor and love those entities around me who enrich my life. (family, friends ect)
  • Last and most importantly I try to see myself in others treating them as I would like to be treated.

Last week in our Coaching session our broker shared a quote from his own Father, it was "If you don't believe something can happen then it probably wont".  He challenged us to take those words to heart and we have.  So I in turn challenge each of you to do the same!  Let's continue to enjoy a market that is fluid and improving with everyday.  Let's Believe!

OK...now at the top of your voice I challenge you to stand up...where ever you are and yell loudly, I BELIEVE.  Now when everyone stops laughing at you send me an email and share the ways in which you remain positive.

Continued Bliss,

Jeff

Good post Jeff! We all need to keep positive in a time of "chicken littles" all spreading gloom.  There is actually more business to be had in down markets than in up.  I am getting more than my "fair share"!

Hello Jeff,

You're my kind of guy!  I came into this market in 1996 and I had to work at it.  I enjoyed it, worked hard, learned everything I could and was pretty successful until 2001 when things skyrocketed and I really did experience that thing of putting a sign up and getting instant multiple offers.  It was incredible!  Then all of a sudden we hit that brick wall.  I have whined and complained about the dead market until I have just about put myself out of business.  Recently, for whatever reason, I realized what an idiot I was being and decided to go back to work.  I now have a great listing inventory again and I'm working with several buyers.  This is a wonderful profession but it is a job.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I AM a believer.

Jeff,

You have the right idea.  I too am a believer. Positive thinking is the way to go in this business.  The big difference now is you have to go get the sales.

Good Luck to all.

The market is what you make it. Sometimes you have to prime the pump to get the water flowing. I believe a lot of things. But probably the most important one to remember is that I believe it could always be worse. That gets the gratitude flowing.

The alternative to a positive attitude requires no energy and is the easiest thing to fall back into. Make a choice! Your blog is an inspiration!

Hi Jeff --  I am a believer - in positive energy creates more positive energy, that if you focus on desireable outcomes, you will get desirable outcomes, that your words create the world you live in, and describing high result outcomes give you a better chance of getting them than if you don't don't.
