Franklin Tennessee - Tennessee's Number 1 Small Town
For me, it is no contest; Franklin is Tennessee's best little town. It is no wonder visitors fall in love with the Franklin area when they visit downtown. It is only 3 blocks long and a town square but a casual stroll and a visit to its great little shops will make anyone a believer.
For visitors, it begins at Five Points, the reference point from which most Franklinites give directions. Yes, even Frankl
in has a Starbucks, but its real charm comes from the shops which are quaint enough to be called "shoppes" and restaurants and historic store fronts.
In three short blocks you have choices of two ice cream shops, eight eateries (last count), dozens of retail for clothing, speciality items, art, and antiques. If you venture a block or two off Main Street these possibilities double or triple.
Within a mile of downtown there are several historic sites, including civil war sites from the Battle of Franklin, Carnton Plantation, the Confederate Cemetery, and Carter House.
When you visit you will end up meeting locals or visitors and if you ask, they will be warm and generous in directing you or giving you pointers to local attractions.
If you are moving here, you will find that downtown Franklin has events all year around that will be high on anybody's social calendar. Enjoy wine tasting, jazz festivals, and craft fairs. Don't miss holiday events like Franklin on the Fourth (of July) and Dickens of a Christmas. They bring in the food, bands, rides, crafts and party all day long. Bring the kids or get a sitter it is family fair or great for couples.
When you are looking to move here, if proximity to downtown isn't a priority, maybe it should be. There are great newer subdivisions within close distance. If you are into Historic Franklin be ready to pounce when something comes up in the Historic District. Travel time from Franklin to Nashville is from 20 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic. But once you visit I think you'll agree, Franklin TN is a great little town to visit and a better place to live.
