What Abe Lincoln Would Say if He Were With Us Now

By
Real Estate Agent with EXIT Realty Legacy

I ran across this quote from Abraham Lincoln recently, and it made me wonder if he could see the future, or if history is so darned repetative that his advice is just plain timeless.  Here's what he said:

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

Was he visionary, or was his hindsight just 20/20?  What do you think?

Experience Is Your Advantage

Truth is always truth, today, tomorrow and yesterday.

This quote was in a AR blog earlier today:

In 55 BC the Roman statesman Cicero wrote: "The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest we become bankrupt. The people must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

Hmmmm

Hi Dave

Our fore fathers had great insight, our elected officials in Washington need a refresher course on what makes this country great.

Good luck and success

We may have to learn the hard way.  We saw the same sentiments when Carter was elected.  The welfare system was implemented and the country imploded. We are in a situation whereby neither candidate will get 100% support of their party as they are both to the extreme side of the party's political beliefs.  Carter was a main stream democrat.  Thus, I doubt seriously that we will end up being such a welfare state to the point of socialism.  There are alot of democrats that will not fall for socialism. We will survive.

Still waiting for Joe the plumber to save the world......

Dave - History repeats itself... These words are as timely today as they were then.  It's sad that we can't get the masses to see that we haven't moved forward a bit, we have the same problems now as we did then...  Thank you for sharing these very powerful words!

I think my Partner's wise old grandmother was right: "If you don't study history, you're bound to repeat it." with the premise being, of course, that the world should always become better in that one should work hard to leave his own little space a little better when he dies than it was when he was born.

It's amazing that we can't reach the masses with good information because our younger generation is too busy putting crap no MySpace and a couple of billion people who want good information are censored by their governments.

Lincoln understood human nature.   That, coupled with the fact, that he was a strong student of history,  made him an unshaking voice of reason.

We should listen...
