A while back there was a contest for an on line legacy which I missed. My very good friend Elizabeth Nieves wrote a post for that contest entitled My Online

Legacy...Hope. For those of you who know Elizabeth she is a warm, loving, compassionate, caring, funny, beautiful person. If you don't know her please check out her blog. I assure you, you will be happy you did.

I have not known Elizabeth very long, but I do know that she is a lifelong friend. She touches so many lives everyday and keeps going. Her strength of character and faith is exhausting and I know I would never be able to compete, but I am thankful to say she is my friend.

Elizabeth has a group called AVTIVIST Rain, which if you are passionate about a cause, would be a great place for you write about it. While Activist carries a hefty title, all it really means is you have something you believe in and you want to or are doing something about it.

According to the Merriam-Webster On line Dictionary Activist is:

All of us have something we believe in and have something we care about. Being an Activist is just acting on that belief. My goal is to form a group for the families of sexually abused children. I have been doing some research and found a group in London called Mothers of Sexually Abused Children and I wonder why the US does not have a similar group.

Last month I wrote Emotionless: The Plight Of An Abused Child and tonight I want to begin to share a story with you. However, this story is a very difficult one for me to tell so it come in segments.

The child referred to in the post Emotionless: The Plight Of An Abused Child is a relative of mine. Two years ago something happened within my family that has shaken the foundation of my family. We found out a child(ren) closely related to us was(were) sexually abused. The world has not been the same for me since and It has taken 2 years to be able to talk about it with anyone.

This is the reason why I am seeking to start a group for Families of Sexually Abused Children. I want to spread the word, educate families of abused children, that while we are there to love and care for our family members, we cannot control their actions and cannot stop those that would do harm to our children. It has taken me 2 years to accept there was no way I could have known what was happening or anything I could have done. I want to spread the word that the families of abused children are also victims.

Chastity, following your passion to educate and help families suffering with the guilt that knowing about sexual child abuse after the fact is a noble cause and will lead you who knows where. Liz - It has taken me a while to get to the point where I could talk about it and to the point where I could act on it. I always love helping people and now I have a cause. That is my husband on the left, me in the middle and my son on the right at the pickle factory in St. Joe Indiana. I needed an updated photo since the other was from high school and I cannot think of a better one than all 3 of us!

It came out when I was pretty young and always thought how could someone hurt a child? It is hard coming from a family that is really close and having this sort of thing happen. I am still trying to understand.

My dear friend and sister...I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD of you for taking this giant step to write about your family's experience. I KNOW the courage it took...but I also know that it was something that you needed to do. I can only imagine the people who will read this....who you will never know about...who will be inspired by your willingness to share yourself.

This horrible tragic thing...the abuse of our children...is so prevalent in our society...probably much more so than most of us ever realize...until it touches our lives personally. You KNOW my heart...my passion for abused children. I am so thankful that God has brought you into my life...because when we stand together...we are stronger. Beth - You know how hard this is for me to talk about and I am so happy I have found you. I feel stronger knowing you are beside me through this ordeal. I know it will take me some time to get the whole story out, but at least I have made the first step.

I want to help others because for 2 years I didn't have any one to talk to about it. I know there are other families in the same predicament and I just want to help. I hope I can inspire at least one person to help.

Finding you was such a blessing I cannot express. I am so thankful that we have met and I know we can do great things together for our children.

Chastity, you sound like an incredible person. I admire how you've chosen to take action and used this terrible incident to spur you to create a valuable support group for families who have been victims of sexual abuse.

I had a close friend who was sexually abused as a small child for many years by a relative. She didn't receive any type of counseling or help until almost twenty years later, and she told me as a result of these horrible experiences she believed she had evolved into a very cold, bitter, cynical and distrusting person.

I wish there were more folks like you around. You are really providing an incredible service that I'm sure, unfortunately, is needed by way too many families.
