I had the great pleasure of serving as our local association president in 2006. We have been blessed over the years with many fine leaders who volunteered their time to help make Augusta one the best associations in the state of Georgia. I wanted to make sure I continued this tradition.
The year was full of many accomplishments. The one that stands out most is the start of the President's Scholarship Award. The Greater Augusta Association of Realtors will give 4 $2000 scholarships to area High school seniors in the Augusta area. I felt this was a way to give to our future and have all the Realtors represented with this award, no matter what size the company.The first year was a success. We had over 25 applications, and gave away the awards at our June Luncheon. The Recipients were from all over the CSRA. We had one young man becoming the 1st person in his family to attend college. We gave several outstanding young ladies the chance to attend The University of Georgia. All of the winners were 1st rate kids who will give back in the near future.
The committee last year had a tough time picking the 4 winners. This year is no different, we have over 50 outstanding students competing for 4 scholarships. This feels like a impossible task. All are deserving.
We are proud to give back to the Augusta community and I do know our future looks very bright. The young people today have raised the bar. I look forward to early June to meet these fine young Students and present them with their well deserved scholarship
