car advertising tacky or not

I agree with Terry - advertising on your automobile is a great way to have many people see what you are selling.  Just think of all the places that you drive to and through!

Hi Maria - Personally, I do not want to advertise on my car.  I don't know if that is the most effective way to get the word out.  And yes, I find it a bit tacky.  Another thing that I don't like about the idea is that it can be a way for strange characters to corner you in parking lots, etc.  For example, someone such as a mugger/rapist can engage you in what you think might be a business conversation, they really are just getting you to let your guard down and then move in for the attack.  Not to be paranoid but why invite strangers into your space in this way.

For those who use the car advertisement, good for you if you find it effective.  However, be careful of those who might engage you in conversation as their intentions may not be what you think.  I really think other forms of advertisement are more effective and give you more protection, as you will be better able to screen out the individuals you will be dealing with.

One more reason I would not do this, my two teenage daughters would die of embarrasment!!! (lol).

Funny that this subject came up.  I just decided this week to get advertising put on the windows of my SUV.  I already have the car magnets but they were starting to feel a little tacky to me. I am having my logo, tagline, website and telephone number put on my windows in a pretty silver color to match my silver car color. With the windows being dark, I figure the silver will stand out nicely without being too bright or tacky.

I decided to do this because as I visit with Realtors or attend their meetings I really want to stand out.  The Realtors meet weekly for tours here and there are at least 50 cars in the lot. They all walk out to their cars to leave, and my SUV will be there with my logo!  While they might not call me immediately, after time my logo and name will be in their head after seeing it repeatedly.

I agree with the safety issue but we must always take day to day precautions, whether our cars are advertising for us or not. My teenage daughter would not be thrilled about having the advertising on her car either but surprisingly she was wearing one of my shirts w/logo last week, and is ok with advertising on my car.  The perk to this is that neither one of my kids will be asking to borrow my car!!

Maria: I wholeheartly AGREE with Terry and Val!  I have my logo and business advertisement on the back windshield of my van. It looks very professional and trust me, if I thought for one moment it looked TACKY....it wouldn't be there.:)  I can tell you that the first thing I noticed was that the hits on my website DOUBLED!!! within days of driving around.   I have gotten several HUGE jobs...in the thousands...because of my van advertisement. One job came as a result of the wife of a Realtor saw my van at my kids school.....how cool is that? :)
