ENTER: The Time Machine Part IV- The 1950's

By
Home Stager with Empire Home Staging Solutions

Time has shown us some very different styles and trends throughout the century's, but there is one decade that really grasps the heart of America and introduces to us the new sound of Rock & Roll!

Let's hop back in our Home Staging Time Machine and travel back to the day's of bobbie socks, poodle skirts and the juke box!  2008...1990...1980...1970...1960...1950!

In the 1950's, if you owned a professional home staging business, you  may have  come across homes like this with similar interiors!

Kitchens were filled with appliances and furniture pieces in an array of colors right out of a bowl of sherbet! (Pinks, pale greens, soft yellows) and on the contrast, bright red colors were also found and checkerboard floors were abound.  (This one shown in black and white).

You could have possibly gone out for a consultation in something similar to this full skirted dress.  Of course in a variety of colors and patterns so that you could have one for every day of the week!

As you can see, this professional home stager, had a "Perfect Day",... probably out shopping for some more inventory and lunch with friends!  Now it's time to sit down at her IBM Electric Typewriter and type up a home staging proposal for her new client!

Notice the gloves ladies...you certainly could not have left the house without those in the 1950's!

Here's a look at a staged bathroom of the 50's...and don't forget the washroom... every part of the house should be thoroughly cleaned and professionally staged in order to get that sale!

You may have had similar items in your inventory for staging, these lightweight pieces would have been perfect for  any room in the house!

A 1950's professional home stager, may have put a nickle in the juke box while having lunch with friends at her favorite diner!  Some of our biggest rock-n-roll icon's of the 50's were probably being played!

   Fats Domino

This home stager obviously used a lot more dishes on this table in the 50's than we would use in our stagings today!

We can even find this retro color palette of brights making a come back and being sold in stores again today!

Staging in the 1950's definitely would have been exciting!   I think this is one era I could see myself staging in,... I would have loved to rock-around-the-clock!

Fun post! In training recently, we presented some slides of Showhomes staging from the mid 1980s and compared it to our current staging work. What a differece! Can you say 'Miami Vice?' Staging trends change often!

Neat blog Michelle,

I did redesign on a mid century mod that was a blast, the style of the house and the shopping were fun to work with.

Thomas-That sounds like it was a fun presentation!  Did you wear the sun glasses and white blazer with your neon pink t-shirt underneath, for the full effect? ;)

Fernando-Thanks, what color is your chair?

Ana-Thanks for sharing, I bet that was a great project to work on!  Do you have pic's to share?

Hi Michelle,

I have pictures of this project in my portfolio that I show potential clients however the client on this project asked that I not post his rooms on the web.  I have had several clients who were not comfortable with me posting on the web but were ok using them in my portfolio.  Do you ever run across this?  Have a great day, love your music.

This is quite the fun series you have going.  I actually love just about everything here!!  I have painted my kitchen very similar to the kitchen here (three homes ago... early 2000).

Okay, Michelle, I MUST admit, the 50's were the best!!! Had to be, I was born in 1951. LOL    But all kidding aside, what I "remember" of those days, they were NEAT! I could Trick or Treat with my friends, pillowcase in hand, and eat all the homemade popcorn balls that were handed out. We didn't think about being poisoned.    We skated up and down the sidewalks, keys to adjust out skates (they were medal and would slide open to fit many shoe sizes).   The Helms Bakery Truck came several times a week, would stop his panel wagon and pull out these clean, shinny pine drawers (very long) and they would be full of fresh donuts, breads and my favorite, cream puffs.... Oh, I love this time machine!

Gee, I didn't decorate anything...sorry.

Oh wait, I didn't mention the Black & White TV. We didn't get one until I was about 7, it had a SMALL screen and we only had a few channels; Lawrence Welk and the likes.  Oh and we got milk delivered in GLASS bottles. It was always so cold.

My grandmother made me wear these white oxford shoes (gosh I thought these were ugly) and dresses that belted around my then tiny waist. (My grandparents raised me).

Well no wonder why my parents waited until 1955 before having me. They had to work on their interior design skills first. LOL

I was going to comment on your most current post, but then I scrolled down to this one, and got caught up in the fun!  Great look back at some of the styles that "some of us" thought were SO coooool!    Sadly, in some cases we are still working with that "cool" stuff, and not in a "retro" way...

Fernando- The power of re-design, got to love it!

Ana- Oh well, I guess I will just have to imagine! :)

Melissa-I'm sure your kitchen was just lovely! Thanks for stopping by!

Kat- The fifties were the BEST!  It's a shame we don't have that safety factor in our world anymore.  I remember skating and biking all over town too...and trick-or-treating was always the BEST!

Cathy- Didn't I get that from your staging portfolio?

Russell- I guess your parents wanted everything just right before they brought you into this world!

Cheryl- Glad you stumbled across this post...you can stumble in anytime! (0:

Connie- I know you keep your towels perfectly folded all of the time too! Glad your enjoying the music! :)

Hello Michelle, these are such neat pictures. I love many of the items from older days - the colors are vibrant and offer a spark of life.  Nice chronological log. I got to check out your other series.

I remember those chrome and formica kitchen table sets... red or yellow, of course!  Oh the wonderful world of synthetic materials - how we embraced it then.

This is the exact recreation of the home me and my wife want to have. We have been planning on buying an older home for years and take the home back to its original time and just let everyone who visits enjoy their trip down memory lane.
