Do you advertise on your car?

By
Real Estate Agent

You know, the big magnetic decal on the door or maybe some lettering on the back. Do you get anything out of this? Is it worth it?

I can see why people do this, I'm just not sure I want to. First of all, this may sound silly, sometimes you want to just be yourself and not have to worry about work. Or even worse, what if your in an accident or in an embarrassing situation and someone drives by and says, I'm not using that guy.

So, do you? If so, does it work for you?

If you don't, what are your thoughts on this?

That poor Mercedes! I'm sure it catches tons of attention though, and in the end, that is the purpose!

I couldn't imagine doing that to the bimmer... however, I'm sure my inbound calls would triple.

Well, the Benz is over 5 years old with almost 100K miles on it.  Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have considered it.

Michelle....  sorry that I am late to the party.  Interesting post with some great opinions. I only read a few of the comments. But you do make a good point about you car and if you are in an accident.

In regards to the comments that I did read, it wouldn't be for me. Sure, it can be some good advertising. I am in the mortgage business and it does crack me up to see lenders with their info. Especially the ones that read...."best rates...give me a call".....  everyone sells best rates.

In any case, as some mentioned, it's not my personality. And Kristal Kraft summed it up best...  I prefer to be stealth in my business.  And PS... just FYI and not sure if anyone mentioned this. But maybe this could have been a members post?  Not that it was negative, but it's mostly chit chat amongst the real estate professionals. Unless you were looking for answers from consumers also.

On another note... CONGRATS on your 1st featured post.

We have thought about many problems with this type of marketing . I have a person in my group that is wraping his car and puting the message all over the streets.  He is paying others to drive their car.  I am not sure it is the best idea, but could be a way to get calls.

Michelle, I don't prefer to do this...I think it makes the vehicle look cheap and there are better ways to market ourselves as realtors.  If someone has to do it then it should look professional as possible.  It seems like so many people have a big sign on their car for real estate.  I have seen some that just have the realtor's website and I actually like the way that looks but the huge signs are a different story!  Ha, there are my thoughts!

I agree, it would definitely make you drive less aggressively. It may be a good thing for everyone to do. All our names and numbers on the outside of the vehicle....LOL

I have had good success with just my license tag... MROME is the tag and the licence frame holder has my website. I have had people stop me with questions.

Michelle, there are many different points of views. In my area one of the biggest agent uses both magnets, painted logos and has a van that he offers free of charge for moving. So it must work for him. I used to have a few magnets on my car but they burned down with the heat. The paint graphic on windows sounds pretty good. Thanks for the post. Teresa, you are funny with your louzy driving.

I used to use it all the time and certainly found it a good asset... Just remove the signage when you're "interviewing" for a listing... no need to alert more competition

I've never used magnets, and thought about doing something with the rear window, but nothing yet. I prefer the stealth approach as well.

I never deface my car. The car I drive is my success and my success comes from referrals, calling FSBO's, and working expired.

Yes, we should not be "Secret Agents", but there are so many different avenues available that work.

I think magnets and painting on cars is tacky. We are not pizza delivery drivers. I did not find my doctor, dentist or accountant by looking for cars with magnets on it. They were referred to me or I found them because of other means of their advertising efforts.

My thought is that it is an act of desperation. (just my opinion)

As Real Estate Agents/Brokers, we are Sales Professionals. I think that type of advertising is more geared to services providers (and I am not diminishing those professions). And for service providers, that type of advertising works great. I thing we are in a completely different industry.

Michelle, good topic.

"I think magnets and painting on cars is tacky. We are not pizza delivery drivers. "

LOL. Chuck, this is one of the reasons I don't use any kind of signs. Although I have considered a small window decal.

Wow...intially I thought "What is all the fuss about signage to market yourself, your company and so you can have local exposure for your brand?"   The thinking it is tacky and what if you work for Frisky Real Estate and are the lead reindeer in a ten car pile up on I-54...worrying about the anchor lady pointing and expounding that "The pile up was caused by a Frisky Real Estate broker (zooming in on wrinkled, dented Frisky Real Estate decal slowly, smoke heading skyward as camera pans the twisted metal) made it click for me. After reading a few more posts, maybe the big worry about coming off as tacky is the  sole worry. Taking a spray can of paint and like a 2nd grader labeling the Desoto Frisky Real Estate.  That would be tacky ..attention getting but tacky. Tacky could be a magnet upside town or crooked that is the size of Rhode Island just plastered hap hazardly on your ride.  But a decal in the window of your SUV that matches and reinforces your lawn signs, letter head, business cards and website is not a bad thing.  It is part of the mix...the least expensive and very visible kind that works around the clock (except when in the garage tucked away at night).  A smaller tasteful same style font/color/logo on the tail end of the mercedes or bmw is not a bad thing...just make it work for your market.  You already have a ski area decal and all those colleges your kids are each going to on the back window now anyway right? (grinning slowly) Use the decal but in an appropiate way you feel good about.  You may wear a name tag/blazer now right? ...consider it your name tag for what you do.  And when you get older and forget where you parked, it will be easier for you and the kids to spot too. Label your horse...it can not hurt your sales. Don't be bashful. What do you have to hide?

Wow! I am amazed at the amount of responses. Thank you everyone for your input, ideas & comments.   In regards to the comment about about pulling up to a clients home that may want to be discreet, I never thought of that.  I guess this is something to think long and hard about. Thank you.

I have experience with decals in two different ways.  Years ago I had a home business...one the party things and I put decals on the back window of my mini-van.  I got a ton of business from it.  I would come out of a store and someone would say...is that your van with the sticker on the back?  One time I was getting my hair cut and a lady came in and said "whose driving the white mini-van?" and I said it was me ...she place a 350.00 order on the spot.

I've only been a Realtor for 2 months and I've already listed an expensive house because the guy saw my magnet on my SUV door.

The whole reason I searched this subject was because I was thinking of doing a wrap.  You don't see alot of that in East Texas.....

I have heard some people swear that they get tons of leads and others that don't work. My personal opinion is that everything is in the branding and word of mouth. I will rather be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. If you continually market yourself thru different
