Morris Cove New Haven CT - Fort Nathan Hale Park

This historic site is a 20 acre city park deeded to the State of Connecticut by an act of Congress in 1921 and was then turned over to the city of New Haven to maintain.

Within Fort Hale is Fort Nathan Hale Park and Black Rock Fort orginally built during the Revolutionary War period where visitors can tour a paritally restored Civil War facility and a Revolutionary Fort that was reconstructed in 1976 to commemorate the Bicentennial of our nation.

Fort Nathan was declared a landmark and historic site by the New Haven Preservation Trust and has the distinction to be the first so recognized in New Haven and was granted national recognition when the Department of the Interior placed Fort Nathan Hale on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Fort Hale Park has a pavilion with enough picnic tables for a large cookout or small afternoon picnic.  In addition the park area includes a sandy beach, family playground, bocce court and walking trails.  There is also an access pier for fishing and or to just take in the wildlife and spectacular views of the harbor.

Donna.. This park is located in the Morris Cove neighborhood?  This is where you have/had a condo for sale, right?  This should entice people to move there.  To have a park near where they live is a great feature.

BTW.. How did the open house go on Sunday?

Donna looks like there is some fine history for Fort Hale Park. You have done a nice job previewing this landmark.

Vickie - It is definitely one of the nicer perks of living on the shoreline in CT.  We may have the water but the Colorado area has some of the most beautiful mountains I've ever seen.

Valerie - Are you having a senior moment? :-)  The condos I have  listed are in Jefferson Woods in Branford CT.  The park is where I spend a lot of time with my granddaughter.  She loves the playground and picking up shells and anything else she can find on the beach! :-)

Oh yeah and I had one person show up for the open house Sunday..:-(

My grandparents used to live at 219 Townsend in Morris Cove to the east of the park. Do you know when the seawall was built at what is now called Pardee Seawall Park? I have a photo, circa 1907 that doesn't seem (it isn't very clear) to show any seawall.
