If you are looking for an affordable, reasonably priced home to retire on Maui, a home that is new or almost new, with a yard large enough to plant your favorite flowers, located close to big box stores and hospitals, the DR Horton developments in Kahului ( Maui Legends and Na Hoku) should be considered.
Na Hoku is still under construction and the developer has many incentives to offer, including a Toyota Prius for every buyer that fulfils certain criteria ( like the will to move into a brand new home:-)
Maui Legends was completed a few years back and it is a mature neighborhood. The advantage of buying a 2-3 years old home versus a brand new one is that older homes offer several features that a developer does not usually offer: landscaping of the yard, fans throughout the house, curtains/blinds, painted walls ( developer's are usually just white) and even hard wood floors or granite countertops.
