In the beginning of September Brad Andersohn wrote an article on How To Use Acive Rain Channels and I was thrilled to see this new platform on the main login page of Active Rain and loved the concept of it giving us the ability to find our posts in a more easily managed way related directly to a variety of topics of interest to us and to others.
My difficulty was in determining what to choose for the names of the topics within the selected channels so I have just kind of winged it over the past few weeks and thought I would keep an eye out on what topics other members were choosing for the different posts they were submitting.
Yesterday morning I finally decided to take a more detailed look at what was transpiring with the Active Rain Channel interface and was so excited about what has evolved over the past few weeks.
From this snapshot you can see there are three topic links under each channel on the Active Rain main page which are the most popular under each category.
Since I had been writing posts about my neighborhood Morris Cove New Haven CT and was submitting these posts to the (Regional Localism) Channel under the topic of Morris Cove New Haven CT I ventured into the platform yesterday to see how quickly I could find these posts.
I first clicked on the main Regional (Localism) link on the Active Chanels main menu page which opened up to the following page that showed each topic in its order of popularity (on the right side) and the most recent posts (on the left side) written on that particualr topic.
Not seeing the topic forMorris Cove New Haven CT listed in the the most poular topics on the right hand side of the page I scrolled down the page further where I discovered there was an alphabetical list of all of the topics within the Regional (Localism) Channel.
As I scrolled down to the letter "M" I clicked on the (more...) link that opened up to a subpage of every topic under the letter "M" where I located the link to Morris Cove New Haven CT. Not only could I now view the posts I wrote for Morris Cove but could easily find all of the posts written by other members for any area in the country that started with an "M". It was amazing to see how many topics there were just under this one letter and how eay it was to navigate to whatever topic I wanted to view.
I was in suspense wondering where my next click of the mouse would take me to. You can see from the snapshot below that it showed not only my most recent post but included every single post I had previously written about Morris Cove that I channeled to the Regional (Localism Channel).
I thought this is was so cool and decided to go one step further on my journey. I went to Google and typed in the keywords I have been using that have been bringing me page 1 rankings on Google from the my postings and ads for Morris Cove and on page 1 of Google I found the positions that I currently had for the posts that I had previously written but also found this.......
Not only was Google showing my posts to Active Rain and Localism but I also had now gained a spot from the Regional (Localism) Channel.
My guess and the AR gurus can correct me if I'm wrong is if you choose your topics and use keywords thinking like a consumer your channeled posts will make their way to Google.
The addition of the Active Rain Channel platform is just one more benefit of being a part of this community that allows us to group our posts in a very systemtic way and have them organized making it easier to find information related to any almost any topic you can think of. If you haven't been taking full advantage of all that this platform has to offer start channeling your posts today! I'll be going back through over all of my previously written posts to make sure they are all being channeled properly. BTW...need some extra points?.... you get an additinoal 25 points when you channel your posts!!!
Way to go Active Rain!!!
