Active Adult Housing in Mount Kisco NY

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams NY Realty * Licensed Associate Broker

Mount Kisco offers two complexes which offer "Active Adult" communities, a form of community which targets people over the age of 55 - and is completely different than the "senior housing" living such as "Assisted Living" & "Continuing Care Retirement," which offer daily assistance to their residents.  These Active Adult communities requires that at least one person in the household is 55 or older or disabled at any age.

Woodcrest Village Condominiums were built in 2005 on 25 acres off Route 172 in Mount Kisco, across the street from Leonard Park.  The 25 acre plot is partly in the town of Bedford.  Three buildings with 90 apartments were built, with 66 offered at below-market prices to those who fit the financial profile - part of an affordable housing project.  The others were sold at market value.  Resale of the affordable units will follow the financial guidelines.

Woodcrest Village offers a clubhouse (3,500 square feet) which houses a library, workout room, fitness studio, full kitchen and a pool.  There are 8 acres of open space with walking trails and a pond.

Sutton Manor, a three story building off Route 117, was built in 2005 with 47 apartments consisting of one and two bedroom units.  The apartments have hardwood floors in the entry hall, the living room, the dining area and the kitchen.  Most of the kitchens have cherry cabinets and granite counter tops as well as stainless steel appliances.  The one bedroom apartments have 1 full bath plus a powder room and the two bedroom units have 2 full baths.  Some of the apartments have a balcony.  There is a community room and an elevator.  All residents have use of the parking garage and there is additional outdoor parking.

Both of these complexes are very convenient to shopping, dining and entertainment.

Sandy - Senior housing is one issue more communities will have to address.  I was please to see one such complex go up in Red Hook recently.  I am almost sure that one of the development you mentioned was built by the developer who did the Red Hook Commons.

Hi Jennifer, You may be right, when these developers find themselves a niche (in this case adult housing) they find themselves being in high demand all over an area.

You're right about communities needing to address these issues.  It is probably one of the reasons people can't find homes here - there is no place for a downsized household to move into if they don't want to leave their immediate community, so they stay in the homes that are too big for them.  It is really an issue.

I have to say that Mount Kisco is one of the few areas in northern Westchester that really focuses on concerns such as affordable housing and senior needs.  I feel this is what makes the village such a great place to live in!  :-)

Sandy,

Almost all of the active adult housing up the line here in the Danbury area has been upscale (some new construction currently listed for over $700,000) and there haven't been that many built (maybe about 5) in about the last 10 years or so. A couple of the towns (I suspect) only approved them because they know the land was going to be developed and didn't want the increased tax burden for more kids in the school system.

Jonathan - Yes - that's another thing that I've found - towns approving the developments because they don't want the school taxes increased.  I'm not saying that is a good thing or a bad one, it just is what it is.

Towns really need to take a good look at all their residents and just like they research how many kids are coming into the school system in the future, they should try to gauge how many people will need to have options when they want to downsize.  Not everyone moves to Florida!  ;-)

This way, there will be a natural ebb and flow in the neighborhoods.

I also feel that the prices of these developments should range from affordable to luxury.  There are buyers for both and it makes for a healthier community, I think.

Sandy Sounds like a really lovely community.  Being so close to White Plains and NYC I am sure these will go.

Jennifer, Woodcrest pretty much sold out right away.  Very popular with those who were born and raised in Mt Kisco and Sutton is not quite sold out.

James,  Yes, both these complexes are very nice.  Seems like the residents are happy!

Thank you both for visiting!

Donna
Hi! I'm looking for an adult community where I could rent. Is there such a thing? Also, are any pet friendly? I am 58 y/o and have a 21y/o daughter who helps me out. Would she be able to move in with me? Would like to stay in the northern Westchester area.
