Too Old to Be a Porn Star, But Not Too Old To Spell Fiduciary.

By
Real Estate Agent

Real estate being what it is at the moment is giving me the opportunity to step back and think about what it is that inspires me about being a real estate broker.  To be brutally honest, what inspires me about real estate is providing exceptional customer service, marketing real estate (and myself), and the social media aspects of the business of real estate. If you want to feel like a fish out of water in Haywood County, talk and learn incessantly about blogging, the internet, and social media!  I digress...

Va va voomBeing a real estate Broker in North Carolina for almost 2 years now, providing exceptional customer service can mean referring Buyers to an expert who knows my area much better than I do. My emphasis during my 2 years here has been on my real estate education, my real estate blogging website, and real estate/localism photography. How else can I better learn about my 'territory' than to write about it and photograph it?

One additional area that I feel I have become quite proficient in is knowing who I WOULD, and definitely would NOT, refer precious clients to when appropriate - - an education as well as an exceptional service I can offer in itself!

Professionally I feel it is my fiduciary responsibility, and in the best interest of clients, to refer them to an expert when I am not that expert.  There is no way to become an expert in every aspect of representing those who are buying real estate in the mountains of Western North Carolina in less than 2 years (i.e., representing myself as a Buyer's Agent).

Repeatedly I am told that because of my background, business experience, etc., I am 'equipped' to work with Buyers. NO, I am not yet equipped to represent Buyers as they deserve to, and must be, represented if one pays attention to and cares about the fiduciary responsibilities inherent in our licensing requirements as well as our own personal ethics.

However, I AM equipped to refer them to the expert they need if it is not me, which is MY gift to those who put their faith in me, and a very important SERVICE. If I am not the 'expert' they deserve, I WILL lead them to that expert.  Will I make as much money?  Of course not. Will I be doing what is most important to me - - PROVIDING EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE TO THOSE WHO THINK ENOUGH OF ME TO WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH ME?  Absolutely.

Susie, I refer alot of commercial buyers out. I am just not qualified to help them the way they deserve to be represented. I get a referral fee and all is good.

I think you are my new favorite blogger.  That title is the best.  I am here to tell you that I agree with you 110% about customer service and what my clients deserve.  One of my close friends in the office and my lender - who works with many different agents - always tell me that I take that relationship and my client's care higher than most.  I always feel honored when they say that, because it is true and in my heart.

I have a very hard time trying to hand someone off to another agent, this is one of the reasons I shut down the start of a team.

Missy, I'm loving the term 'referral agent.'

Audrey, I too take the relationships very seriously, and have no qualms referring people to those more qualified. Great minds think alike!!

Alisha, THANK YOU!

Hal, I guess now you know I'm a little bit naughty.

Mark, thanks for stopping by... what did you leave in Vegas?

Fran, in every sense of the word!

Hi William, thank you for your attention!
