*Sigh* Tax Time! Some Quotes to Make it Easier

By

Hurricane WV REALTORI joined a long line at our little local post office today, getting my taxes sent out nearly at the last minute.

This year I didn't do too badly.  I've been a Realtor for about a year and a half, so I'm still at the point where I invest about half of what I make back into my business.  The other half went into the bank for taxes, because I have no idea as an independent contractor what I might have to pay.  It's just safer to save more.

For the first time in years I had someone else do our taxes, I was afraid to deal with all the deductions.

Thankfully, Uncle Sam was kind.  *Whew!*

As we approach our tax deadlines, I thought it was a good time to post some tax quotes.  Enjoy!

  • Taxation with representation ain't so hot either.  ~Gerald Barzan
  • America is a land of taxation that was founded to avoid taxation.  ~Laurence J. Peter
  • Man is not like other animals in the ways that are really significant:  animals have instincts, we have taxes.  ~Erving Goffman
  • People who complain about taxes can be divided into two classes:  men and women.  ~Author Unknown
  • You don't pay taxes - they take taxes.  ~Chris Rock
  • I don't know if I can live on my income or not - the government won't let me try it.  ~Bob Thaves, "Frank & Ernest"
  • Next to being shot at and missed, nothing is really quite as satisfying as an income tax refund.  ~F.J. Raymond
  • You must pay taxes.  But there's no law that says you gotta leave a tip.  ~Morgan Stanley advertisement
  • The wages of sin are death, but after they take the taxes out, it's more like a tired feeling, really.  ~Paula Poundstone
  • I shall never use profanity except in discussing house rent and taxes.  ~Mark Twain
  • Rich bachelors should be heavily taxed.  It is not fair that some men should be happier than others. ~Oscar Wilde
  • The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than golf has.  ~Will Rogers

Sarah, I think I was familiar with only two of those.  They're great!  A big LOL to Marc.

I still haven't brought the shoe box to the accountant.  yikes!

Marc - Of course I didn't mean you!  That quote was for all those other  golfers ...

Michael - The flags were afghans I made as Christmas gifts a few years ago, couldn't think of another "tax" picture to use.

Maggie - Most of these were new to me, too!  The Paula Poundstone one has been a favorite of mine for a while, though.

You haven't give "The Shoe Box" to your accountant yet?!?!  Eeeek!!!!  RUN!!!!

Sarah you are doing better than me..... I've been spending all my free time on ActiveRain and let the taxes slide. Called the accountant Thursday to draw up the extension and popped that in the mail today with yet another check for my partner, the Rich Uncle Sam!

Hi Sarah-

Funny quotes! Makes it a little easier to swallow, taxes that is. Did you know that the IRS is a privately owned corporation? Scary. There's a lot more to that story but again, most folks don't know about it. Hope you have a great weekend : )

Taxes and deadlines. The story of my life. I used to do my own taxes years ago. I wouldn't begin to do them now. I converted into an LLC after the first 6 months of my real estate career.

Dan - I wondered how many people in line at the post office might be sending off extensions.

Kelli - I honestly don't know much at all about the IRS.  And I'm OK with that!  The IRS and I can keep leaving each other alone and I'm quite fine with it.

Desiree - Taxes always feel better when you're done with them.  Hope you're mailing now!

Jim & Maria - It is a relief, isnt' it?

Eloise - I think we could ALL be quoted on that one!  :o)

Fran - In the beginning we put so much back into our business that we don't owe too much.  I'm trying to get in the habit of saving half of what I make, just in case.

Lizette - I'm afraid to do my own taxes now.  It was so much easier before I started my own business!

Bob - I was quite surprised that I reinvested fully half of what I made.  Makes me wonder what this year will bring!
