The following is an great example of how an AR guy helped me and he didn't even know it!

Many months ago (I was NOT on AR then) I was googling information about having a moving truck wrapped (or just trying to get some information in general about).

I ran across Utah Dave's post about how he wrapped his truck.  He talked about how he had it 3 years before he re-vamped it and now it is actually working for him!   I thought it was very interesting and I was in the midst of buying/thinking/deciding on a moving truck myself for my clients.

So, in August I made the decision and made the step.  Since then I have been working with a designer to come up with the "wrap" on the side of the truck.

I FINALLY have a design and wanted all of your opinions about it BEFORE I made this live.

I would love your opinion!

Keep in mind that this is just a "proof".  The photo will actually be sharper and the colors more vibrant when wrapped.  I guess that I should also share that this proof is very small...keep in mind that it will be spread over an 18 FT box on the truck (everything should be large enough to view and see).

Sheila - Your moooving in the right direction. The moving truck has been one of the single best things my Team and have ever done. Here are some thoughts on my lessons learned.

1. Put a different image on each side of the truck. Makes people think you have a fleet.

2. Have a place to store the truck (you won't believe how many fellow agents will protest)

3. No smoking rules right on the agreement. We stated there would be a $500 cleaning charge if the truck smelled of smoke.

4. Don't buy the gas...you'll go broke. We said the use of truck was free, but it had to be returned with a full tank of gas and must be broom clean (ok, you'll be surprised that what people will leave on the truck for you to clean up or dispose).

5. Have lots and lots of keys. They just get lost. We also number our key tags with "Truck 1...Truck 2..." and so on so again, looks like we had a fleet of trucks.

6. Send out letters to community organizations that the truck is available for their projects.

7. Have fun with it and be creative.

I like Greg's idea of numbers 3, 4 & 5.  Imperative to have multiple sets of keys & give rules.  No smoking & clean out the truck.  KM

This is great advertisement. Always be sure the telehone number is large enough to see so if someone is driving they can jot it down.

Kristin,

I like the look and just had two questions:

  1. In the proof the phone number is not real clear, have you thought of another font?
  2. I like the riverwalk background but, where is the Alamo????

Really this is a good idea and good luck with it.

I have to agree with Don, the first thing that struck me was I had to really try and read your phone number when everything else was so clear to see. Great idea! Can't wait to see the final product!

Greg -Gosh, you are a wealth of information, THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

K- are these some great ideas or what?

Carl- thanks for the tip!

Don- yes, I'll make sure that number is more visable...my guy assures me on the 18ft box it will be very clear....and about the Alamo...funny you mention that because the first thing that out of towners remember about SA is the riverwalk (I would have thought the Alamo also).  This is a FAMOUS photo of the riverwalk that I knew locals would immediately recorgnize.  I also like it for the colors of the umbrella's.

C- as usual I love your input...thanks.

I love the concept!  And since you are asking I will give you the honest opinion.  I really don't care for the photo of you being on the angle.  They always told me in photo class not to take pictures like that and it just feels distorted.  I like your AR photo.  But this photo is good, just not on the angle, that is me anyway.

There is a lot going on and at first glance it looks like a carnival, though I realize it is the river walk.

Also, bigger and clearer name and phone number.  Those are THE most important.

Are you sorry you asked me?  I can't wait to see the final output!  I love the concept and in CA it would be so hard to do something like that.  Insurance and liability would kill us though I do know of someone doing it!

Sheila I like the concept and Dave seems to have done the research for you. When I look at Dave's picture it seems to have more color contrast, brighter I guess. Just my thoughts...

In Maryland your brokerage needs to be a big as your name. I also would use the Alamo if you are a SA gal.

Sheila, Here'a a few ideas.  Have your website on the back, so, when its sitting in traffic, people can write down your information.  I agree with the phone number,  It's best to just make it black or deep blue.  Once the graphic gets too fancy, it is more difficult for people to read. Oh, and have a truck number on the truck.  For instance, 11, up by the cab.  Some will wonder what it is, but, others will think you have that many trucks.  You can use any number, really.  Say, you're a Buffini Member, can you get our mayor campaign (short version) on there?  Again, I would put it on the back doors. I think it looks very sharp!

It's a Good Life!

I love the truck idea. I was thinking about it myself...until a client gave me a four hour lecture about the liability. I'm still thinking about it...in the near future...and I'll come to you for advice. I LOVE the banner, but I also like the idea of different scenes on each side. That is brilliant. I hope this works very well for you. Good luck and GBU!

Love this idea. I am as well wondering about the insurance. can you give us some insight?

As for the truck it looks good. However if it where me I would have my web address very visible . As you know most are inclined to visit the web first. have something in place on your web site for them to click on and you got um!!

That is a great idea - I have not seen that done in Philly at all.  I have seen people have their ads or a magnet type thing on their car or windshield which I always thought was a little gaudy but on the other hand, advertising is advertising !  I think this is a great idea as it is a benefit to the consumer AND promotes you at the same time.  It is a service that is always in need as well.  I am not the design expert but certainly love the idea !  Congrats for thinking outside the box !

Sheila, looks like you're getting great advice. Several have made comments on insurance. Most of the national truck companies have their own blanket insurance plans for their clients. Mine - a $2M coverage plan. Bt The Way, the 2nd time the truck was out, it was wrecked! When we got to the scene, the truck was restning on 2 wheels because the driver freeked out, turned onto a side street and forgot about the height of the truck. The top of the truck hit a tree and the limb went right into the box and tipped the truck over onto 2 wheels. $4K damage...the client paid the $1,500 deductible and felt so bad, she referred 3 new clients to us! No fear!

Way to make the move!  Thanks for your comments on my post. Ive been mia for a little while on AR but will be back soon after I finish some major projects for agents.

The key to my truck has been the color, the picture, and of course the name of the website.  People dont remember Robison and Company on my truck...its there...people dont remember my name...its there...but they dont remember it.  Id make your website be a little bit bigger so when people see the truck..they immediately pick out your web name and than brand you with that.

More dominant webname..and phone number definitely! :)

Remember, people dont always call you off of your truck.  Its part of the grand package of branding.

Good tips on letting everyone and their dog use it!  I let anyone use it.  I advertise it to all my friends if I have an opening on facebook or via email...I always get a reply.  I also have them fill it up.  I dont do gas.  Good tips yall!
