Analysis of a perfect Halloween original art work.

With Halloween around the corner and little kids and big kids wanting to go out and trick or treat and dress up in fantasy costumes, I'd like to show you this picture done by a child.  It bowled me over when it was done.  (I'm a former art teacher.)

It was great for these reasons, at least in my opinion.

  • Kids love two story houses and this one is two story.
  • Kids have noticed that bricks and cracks show through the stucco on spooky houses and this one depicts them in full color.
  • Blue clouds swirl around in the black sky.
  • Green trees are present in the black night.
  • Upstairs there is a spooky figure in a room that is lighted. In fact there are two or three figures upstairs at the windows....truly a spook-filled house!
  • Downstairs there is a scared-to-death figure calling for help.
  • A witch on a broom is flying in the black night.
  • A ghost, evidently friendly, with a smile on its face in present.
  • Bats are flying around in the sky and bats are always spooky.
  • Smoke is coming out of the chimney...and the chimney is leaning....a true kid-type drawing.
  • And finally, there is a small ghost calling for "DAD."

Ghost

It was made was with crayons and then a wash of ink was put on top so that the dark night was made.  If you want to have fun with kids try this method and let them draw a Halloween picture.

P. S.  I could be a little biased because this was done by my son years and years ago.  I always told my kids that if the teacher gave them a color-book picture to fill in they could just turn it over and put their own original art work on the back.

Barbara - That really is a great picture.  It shows a lot of creativity - and I know about creativity, because I have none...  :)

Debi, you are creative!  Just in a different way perhaps.  Thanks for comments.

Dear Mrs Barbara,

I am back from Algiers. Those of us in the French Foreign Legion ran the terrorists off. It took two weeks. Part of the method was we blasted them with Chipmunk music for a full week. Finally they said enough was enough. I am now home and preparing for a fun Halloween. Therefore, I enjoyed your Halloween blog.

Nutsy, I am so glad you are home!!  You are my favorite friend on activerain.  I see your boss got featured so he's probably gonna be a little arrogant for a few days but just be patient with him.  I never knew anyone before who could get featured because of a gap between his teeth.  Some people will just try anything for attention!

If you look closely at this art work, you'll see what appears to be one of your relatives in the bottom window.  Looks squirrelly.

P. S.  I need to borrow your outfit for a costume party.  It's neat and you look very dignified.

Dear Mrs Barbara,

I do not want to disrespect you but I think my outfit might be too small for you. I am powerful but come in a small package.

Respectfully, your squirrel friend Nutsy

Barbara, Well no wonder, the apple didn't fall too far from the tree - you gave your son the gift of talent! And, I have no doubt you gave him an A+

Carol, you're mighty sweet to say that.  I don't think he did this in my class but I'd have given him  an A+ for it!
