Up until October 3rd., the tax incentives for homeowners to utilize solar or wind energy were minimal. A maximum Federal tax credit for homeowners was only $2,000 for photovoltaic systems, wind or solar water heating systems in any tax year.  Congress just passed a substantial tax incentive for homeowners to encourage conversion of their log homes or cabins to solar or wind energy. It is called the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008More...

Make any home more energy-efficient, comfortable and affordable by incorporating 'Passive Solar Design and paying particular attention to the sun to minimize heating and cooling needs. Passive solar incorporates a combination of building features to reduce and sometimes eliminate the need for artificial cooling, heating and daytime lighting.

This is not a new 21st. century fad; ancient civilizations used passive solar energy and we are just now learning from them. Today, new advancements in construction materials, building methods, and design software improve the overall home design and integrates passive solar principles into modern log homes.

If you want to reduce your power bills (or completely eliminate them), convert your home to green, free, renewable energy... learn more about this new tax credit and alternative energy options.

Tom, in the real estate and building trades there was always this give and take about making a home efficient and using Geo-Thermo technology, wind energy and solar. But the cost of a home goes up by 30% (or more to implement these features), so the incentive was not there, I hope this Government bill makes it worth a second look.

Hi. Glad to have found your discussion. I, too, have been a 'greenee' for a few years. I would love to build all off-grid home in the next few years.  I attended a luncheon the other day with Congressman Rob Bishop as the speaker. He talked alot about energy and solar issues. I spoke with him after the lunch and he stated that the tax credits were eliminated and that we need to bring the better tax incentives back to Utah for people to get off there butts and start thinking 'green', much more than just being a conservationist. Is that what you know? I Thanks for your help.
