JUST BOUGHT THE CINGULAR 8525 - SIMPLY AMAZING!

By
Real Estate Agent with Bankers Realty

JUST UPGRADED MY PHONE TO THE CINGULAR 8525, AND WOW THIS IS AN AMAZING PHONE!  I previously used the 8125 version, and there have been some marked improvements.  First, I like the phone's broadband internet access.  Great for real estate because I can log on to the MLS just as fast as a my desktop and pull up info on homes for my clients ON THE SPOT!  The phone is smaller and looks sleeker in charcoal gray.  The camera is upgraded to 2.0 megapixels as opposed to 1.3, again great for taking pictures of homes.  I have to get a micro SD card to upload all my real estate software, and then I will have a fully functional pocket computer for my real estate needs.  Just as the 8125 version, this phone has a full slide out qwerty keyboard, much more conducive to typing than the pseudo keyboards of Treo, Blackberry, Samsung or other competitors.  In fact, I typed this blog on my phone easily while at a coffee shop. The phone runs on Window Mobile platform.  I also have the supra e-key on this PDA, which is very convenient as I don't have to carry a separate key.  I highly recommend that you check out this phone if you are considering upgrading to a PDA.

What PDA software do you carry or recommend for our real estate needs?

I currently use a Blackberry, If I make the change, can my information be downloaded from phone to phone? The biggest downfall I have with my BB is the internet browser if VERY slow. Otherwise, love not having to wait to get to the office to respond to emails! Funny - to upload this comment, my word to type is "Blueberry"

I have heard TERRIBLE things first hand about that phone... stay on top of Cingular.  It drops calls ALL the time.  I met an AT&T Corporate Rep who told me it was HORRIBLE and everyone complains.  She says by far it is the best PDA made - but the phone doesn't function!

Knef,

I use the Palm X as my PDA and E-Key for MLS info and Keysafe access and it works just great.  I use Loan Pro quite frequently as well as Mapopolis.

As for my cell phone, it's 10 years old, has been dropped too many times to count, looks like an antique, but it works unbelievably well and I will use it until it fails!

Thanks for the info.

Lucky :)

I am currently using the Verizon "V" vx9800. It is definitely time for an upgrade - I will have to check Cingular out!

I was using 2 coffee cans and a string. The Blackberry was like buying a diamond for me!

Robert --- I'm not sure how/if you can download your sim card info from blackberry to cingular...definitely worth a call to your nearest Cingular Store before you switch over.  Your previous method of 2 coffee cans and a string before the Blackberry upgrade was reliable and cheap, but probably not very good on long distance calls or clarity ;)....As an aside, my graphic word upload is "blackberry", I kid you not!  This is too funny....

David -- I've had the 8525 for over a week, and thus far have not dropped a Cingle (pun intended) call after hundreds of phone calls...in fact, I now get coverage in my garage area whereas with the 8125, I had none....I'll keep a hawk's eye on it though, and let everyone know if any problems arise...but so far, so good!!! I'm happy with all of its functions.

Lucky -- Thanks for the info...I'll definitely check out Loan Pro...How's Mapopolis?

Justin -- definitely check it out....Is the Verizon V the TV phone?  You can watch it TV on the 8525 too but requires a costly added plan...probably not worth watching TV on such a small screen anyway....

Knef... you can!  They did it for me from my old NExtel...

the thing is that it doesn't take ALL the numbers - so if you have someone w/2 numbers, whichever is the first will move but not the second

BUT - you can buy a SIM REader for your computer and just do it yourself!

You can also just synch your blackberry with Outlook and then synch your PDA with it

I am very happy with my Cingular 8125, But I did go WOW! When is saw the new version. As soon as my 2 years up and am so upgrading. Also, I haven't had a problem with the phone other than every once in awhile hitting the hold button with my ear.

Knef - Go on line to www.Froogle.com and you can find Mini SD cards for as low as 9.99. I got my 1 Gig card for 19.99. Can't wait to upgrade.

Knef,

Let me ASSURE you from another 8525 user that this phone is AWESOME!  I've customized it with Google Maps, Weather, Voice Command 1.6, and many others.  You can find alot of great tips/tricks at http://forum.xda-developers.com

No dropped calls, nothing but great reception, and the camera is a great tool to have with you at all times!

Feel free to contact me anytime if I can help you with it...

Knef,

I have found the Mapopolis program to be very beneficial.  Try it out for free from Palm or your software provider.

SO FAR, SO GOOD.  I have had no issues with the 8525.  I'm now trying to customize the features to my liking, as Tony has done to his smartphone.  As of yet, I don't have any use for the PTT (push to talk) button, which is a walkie-talkie like function.  Tony, do you have any software to bypass this feature, and unlock the PTT button to make it available for other functions?
