New Phone Blues

Technology is supposed to help us save time in our lives.  It should make it easier to go about your day and it should help you be more efficient so that you can concentrate on the important things in your business and your family.  Am I the only one that seems to get the opposite result from new technology?

Phones and computers are stressful purchases.  My philosophy is that when you shop, you save time and money knowing exactly what you want.  Here is what is want:  A phone where it is easy to hear my conversation, and a calendar.  The basic premise of a phone is that you use it to talk to someone, right?  So I'm not asking for much.  I bought a "nice" phone almost two years ago to help my business.  It was a "smart phone", and I thought that was good.  It seems that its all or nothing with the phones today.  Your choice is a phone that will break in a month (or sooner if my daughter gets a hold of it) or a phone that can launch the Space Shuttle.  I chose the latter and figured I could just use it simply...but it sucks you in!  I tried to link up my email, I tried to work with the Internet, but nothing every seemed to function properly.  My conversations were difficult to hear, and I had plenty of dropped calls.  I had countless error messages and spent hours on the phone with the company because the store that sold it to me couldn't help.  Very efficient and good for my business, right?  After two non-functioning phones over the 2 years I finally lost it and was forced to get a new one.

So yesterday I got a new "Blackerry" and I'm back to square one.  New software, etc.  So now I am spending my time trying to link my contacts and numbers.  Add this to the fact that I just got Top Producer, and I am spending a significant amount of time with this technology issue.  What do you do?  How do you juggle your business in a non-complicated manner.  What phone, combo is the best?  I am stuck with PC-based products because of our RMLS, so don't even mention the Mac.

Matthew, I feel for you! I just replaced my phone with one exactly the same model...so I know how to use it. The problem remains that I am missing items...software, add-ins and little customization touches I had added over time.

Wow,  no one ever had to reprogram Smoke Signals in the Cowboy and Indian days.

Hang in there.

You are not alone. It is painful to get a new system going. The learning curve is large because there are so many other things that tug at you in life. When you catch up, I'm sure you'll love the new item.

Please remember me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC".

best regards.

David,

I sometimes wish it were like that still, but the phones really are a necessity for our business, its just frustrating.

Vickie and Michael, it does seem like I need to spend some time with it before throwing it off Mt. Hood
