Just off Nevada Highway in Boulder City, Nevada, sits a two-story Dutch Colonial building at 1305 Arizona Street. Nicknamed "The Grand Dame of Boulder City", it is the Boulder Dam Hotel.
Built in 1933 to house project managers supervising the construction of Hoover Dam, the hotel quickly gained a worldwide reputation as it played host to Hollywood celebrities (Bette Davis, Will Rogers, James Cagney, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple), prominent businessmen (Howard Hughes, George Pepperdine, Cornelius Vanderbilt), politicians and foreign heads of state.
The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1982, and today offers 21 rooms and suites. The first floor has a beautiful lobby with extensive woodwork, Matteos Restaurant, two boutique shops, the Boulder City Art Guild Gallery, and the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum.
It's only a quick 30-minute trip south of Las Vegas to go 75 years back in time. For more info and photos of the Boulder Dam Hotel, visit the website.
