I moved to Rowlett in 1988; In the last 20 years, I have watched Rowlett grow from a population of about 18K to over 55K people. I have seen many leave Rowlett durin g its initial growth spurt claiming the cozy city "lost its country feel". The exodus began when Dalrock Road and Hwy 66 were widened into divided highways. For those of us that have "hung in there" believe that the changes have been for the better and were long overdue.

Fastforward to 2008 and even greater change is upon us. The George Bush Turnpike (GBT)Extension; before the GBT there was no high speed way to travel from Rowlett to North Dallas. Now the GBT serves as a gateway to the entire North Dallas region. However, this gateway has a price that is levied in the form of tolls. If you travelled along Liberty Grove Road, you will notice that construction for the GBT is underway. The groundbreaking ceremony for the extension took place on August 21st of this year and we are starting to significant changes in our landscape due to construction.

.

The Eastern Extension of the GBT is expected to be the spark that lits the fire of economical development for the City of Rowlett. For the past few years, dozens of businesses have begun to strategically invest into building an strong retail foundation in Rowlett. This boost in commerce has made it more convenient for residents to shop and enjoy leisure time right here at home.'s commerce. Remember that progress is often accompanied by inconvenience.
