The Social Networking Buzz: TweetBeeps & Tweet-Ups

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gallery

Once I mastered the Twitter basics, I set up TweetBeep (kinda like Google alerts) to email me when someone wrote a tweet on something that interested me. For example, any time someone wrote a tweet including the word "Plymouth", I'd get an email. Do you know how many cities are named Plymouth in the world? Lots.

Next, I noticed people talking about "tweet-ups". I had no idea what they meant, but had a hunch it might have something to do with getting together.

As luck would have it, one of the local agents I was following organized one last week and five people showed up. We met at a pub, enjoyed food & drinks, and shared real estate war stories and tech tips.

It was great to be in the company of others who "get" and embrace the same technology instead of looking at you with a blank stare when trying to explain..

Next, a little Twitter synchronicity.

This is like Twitter 2.0 when I am still figuring out Twitter vs Twhirl and everything else. So many choices it's mind - boggling.

Since I began Active Rain, I became compelled to try FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter,Retagger,Widgets....arrrgh. Not so successful at most of them. I feel like Whirled Peas in a blender.

Blender...that reminds me of margaritas! All this blogging will drive me to drinking!

Okay! I'm in. I think I'll look for local tweetups now that I know what they are.

Mary - It definitely can be overwhelming as new things pop up all the time. All we can do is keep trying.

Jill - "Whirled Peas in a blender" nice image and I can relate...and I'll join you in a margarita LOL

Vickie - It was fun and I'd definitely recommend checking them out

It all depends on how much time you put into them. If you post 3 or 4 tweets a day then you will find that you get a lot of followers.

HI Debra, I've also discovered TweepBeeps...I've got it to alert me whenever @PhxRealEstate , my username, is discussed.  Similar to setting up a Google Alert for yourself to see who/what is talking about you :)

Tweetbeeps sounds interesting.  I'm pretty new to actually using twitter and it is mindboggling at times all the applications around it.

There is a lot more to this Twitter thing than I imagined.  I guess it's about time to get on board.  For a long time, I just didn't get it, but reading your last couple of blogs has helped out a lot!

This is all so time consuming!  Does anyone have time to actually list and sell houses anymore?

Dora & Vincent - TweetBeeps are great because even if people haven't "responded" to you, you're able to see their tweet because they've included your name

Troy - I think we're just getting started on 'this Twitter thing' and the more social networking goes mainstream, the more important it will become. Let me know when you're on and I'll follow you @MichiganMoves

Marilyn - That's the ultimate online to get top of mind awareness to your sphere until you have a face-to-face meeting. Social networking is still in the infancy stage, but lots of potential. BTW, it becomes less time consuming once you have the techniques down and develop a social networking strategy (still working on that one LOL).
