I am a GEEK!

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate

Well, I am a real estate geek. I said it!  I confess!

My mom was a geek, I married a geek, and now... I am a geek!  I got my first house at 18, and rented out a room to pay my bills.  My favorite part about real estate is coming up with new ways to market my business with all the new gadgets and stuff out there.  My degree is in marketing and I absolutely love it.  I combined my love of computers (my husband went to college with me and majored in computer science) and real estate, and I have found my passion as a real estate agent.

Business has become so much easier since I started just a few years ago, for me and my clients.  I can email listings with a couple of clicks, they can get emails from me while I sleep about new listings, I can receive, sign, email and fax documents without ever even printing them, making it easier for my techie clients!

If there are any other real estate geeks out there (who may also like Star Trek - but that is optional) comment on this post and be proud!

Live long and prosper...

I am with ya. I worked for a while at companies like Apple, AutoDesk, Radius, Media 100 - all as a geek in the engineering deparment. I love putting the geek thing to work for me in real estate. Back in 1988, when I first got into the business, I was the geek agent that lugged a Mac Plus to the office to do real estate stuff on. Anyone remember those big old carrying bags that targus used to make to carry around those macs... ahh... good times.

Anyway, you can never know too much geeky stuff. I even put together my own buyers assistant program that runs on both mac and windows.... how freaking geeky is that?

Well, my resume doesn't include any career background in technology, I just have an addiction to it! I'm addicted to the ease that it provides and the cool tools I have to wow my clients. These things set me apart from the rest of the herd because the herd around here is afraid of the toys! I'm curious what you're using for your contracts. I use Zipform, which is nice, but I haven't gotten to the point of not having to print anything yet. Tell me more!

I don't print, I use a tablet PC!  It is awesome.  I get forms or whatever by fax if I plug it into a phone line (when I am expecting one) or by efax or FosterFax.  They come into my tablet PC, and I convert them into a file that I can sign with the pen, then I convert it to a PDF and either fax or email it back.  It keeps stuff from getting fuzzy with lots of faxing, etc.  You can have a client sign a whole listing agreement or contract this way!  They sign and initial right on the screen... then I email it to them or save it to a CD and give it to them.  That counts as delivery.

That's cool stuff. I plan on upgrading to a tablet sometime later this year so I'll have to look into this further then. Thanks for sharing!

There now. Doesn't that feel better?

Eva, all I can say is, I enjoyed reading your post. I'm glad that you enjoy doing what you do. And yes. I'm a geek too.
