Monday Morning Blahs & Happy Places

Real Estate Agent

I'm sure many of you can relate to the Monday morning "blah's".  Even the most optimistic person can experience the blahs now and again.  Here's how my Monday morning blahs turned into a great day!

I was sitting in front of the fireplace having my morning coffee scanning the television for something that wasn't dreadful to entertain myself, and generally feeling blue all over. I have experienced this enough to know that the solution is to get up, get dressed, and get out of the house. So I did. I prepared a short errand list and headed out, having no intentions of really "working" on anything.

My first stop was an optical boutique directly across the street from my office. I need a new pair of prescription glasses and they had a huge sale sign in the yard. When I walked in, I was totally unprepared for what awaited me.  I was stunned that such a place existed almost under my very nose and yet hidden from me. Upon entering, I was met with the most colorful, whimsical, fun and entertaining optical shop I have ever seen. I was promptly assisted by one of 3 women who were having a wonderful morning. They were smiling and laughing and obviously oblivious to the fact that other people were experiencing the Monday morning blahs.

The salesgirl began to inquire as to my needs, and pick some attractive frames for me to look at. I could not stop looking around in amazement. I must have looked like a child on his first visit to Chucky Cheese.  I said "what an awesome place to work, I bet you just can't wait to get here every day!" She agreed and took me by the arm and gave me a tour of the place. There were 2 exam rooms, both of them in dramatic animal themes..even down the examination chair!  Even the restroom was "off the wall" with one of a kind design.  Within minutes of entering the store I was smiling, and so happy. The happiness increased as I took it all in. I know you are having a hard time imagining it all, and keeping in mind that pictures cannot capture the "feeling" of something here is a link so that you can see for yourself! My Happy Place

And then IT happened....I said, "I'm a broker at Power Realty right across the street.  I've been meaning to stop by..." and she said, " Really? Can I get your card? I have a house I am putting on the market next week!"  I told her I would be happy to talk with her about it, and we continued to look around.

Before I left, I walked over to one of the happy ladies (the owner of the shop) who had been laughing and having such a good time and introduced myself and asked her if she had heard about my Women2Women Business Networking Group. She thought she had, and then I mentioned a few of my ladies by name and told her a little about the group. She knew several of my members and became very excited to be invited to attend and said, "Please send me an invitation to your next meeting. I would love to come!" I told her how awesome her shop was and how it made me so happy just to be there.  She gave me permission to just "pop in" some days for an attitude booster.

I walked out of the store with a huge smile on my face, pep in my step, and a sense of accomplishment.  I drove away wondering if my happiness level attracted this new business to me, and how differently it could have played out if I had been unimpressed,  nonchalant and drearily mentioned that I'm a realtor. I have to believe the former theory.  What I know for sure is that the rest of my day Monday and even yesterday turned out to be the best and most productive days I have had in weeks.  I discovered a "happy place". Do you have a happy place? If not, I encourage you to find one! A few moments spent in a "happy place" can do wonders for your business!

Loved your post.  If you don't mind I am going to share a portion by asking our agents at our next office meeting "if they have a happy place?" - think it is a great concept!
