Some things just defy the imagination

This post has absolutely nothing to do with real estate. So forgive me for that, but I just had to share this.

I grew up in a family of aerobatic pilots. My father flew stunts, all his uncles flew stunts, nephews, cousins, everybody I think. In fact, two of my uncles were national aerobatic champions. And even the Smithsonian had an exhibit about the Cole Brothers.

But, even with all the crazy stuff they used to do, I've never seen ANYTHING that comes close to this. In fact, I've never even heard of something like this.

My brother, who's an airline Captain, just sent this to me. You HAVE to watch it. (turn your volume up)

Enjoy.

Michael-That was amazing and pretty scary. It didn't look like anybody was hurt. Thank God. Thanks for sharing that. If you notice here on AR there is so much more stuff that is posted than real estate stuff and a lot of it quite good and very interesting so never be afraid or apologize for sharing things like this or anything else that interests you. That's how we begin to understand and build friendships here on AR. I for one love that about this place.

Hi Pat: Thank you for stopping by, and for the comment. Isn't that absolutely amazing footage? If that guy didn't believe in miracles before, I'll bet he does now. The reason I put a 'non-real estate' disclaimer is, I know how busy people are and how valuable their time is. But thank you for making me feel better about it.  : )

Wow!!! That was wild!!  I actually got goosebumps when the wing fell off...then tears in my eye's when it was almost on the ground.  Don't need any coffee after that show!  Just glad to have two feet on the ground!  Life is good. :)

I saw a similar video a few months back.  It's an R/C plane.  The last part of the footage (from when it comes back onto focus) is computer generated.  On second thought, it all may be computer generated.  See this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsNIhBlyepc

Here's the real thing as I know you know Michael.

Holy cow, what a ride and what a rush. I would just as soon to never have to experience anything like that!

Hi Janice: If that woke YOU up just watching it, think how the pilot felt doing it!

Hi Lee: Yeah, by brother who sent that video said he saw an RC doing the same thing. But we've both been looking at this one for any telltale signs - and haven't found any yet. If it's a fake or CG, it's one of the best I've seen. And I've been producing video forever.

Thanks for the picture of Duane's Taylorcraft! I appreciate that. Sadly, Duane passed away a couple of years ago. But I believe that plane is in Oshkosh WI at the EAA museum. And YEP, that's the real deal.

Hi Denise: Yeah, that would be beyond a rush. When I used to teach skydiving, we referred to that as the 'pucker-factor' and that one would definitely be off the charts!

That all for the comments. Here's one that's not quite as hair-raising... http://www.chilloutzone.de/files/08101004.html

Michael,  I was concerned that I had called the video a fake too quickly, so I researched it and found several sites that point out that this very video is a fake.  However I agree that it's a good fake.

Hi Lee,

Yeah, I found a few sites claiming it was fake too. But the ones I found were all just people's random opinions, without any basis in fact or knowledge of flying. Then I found this... http://www.jamesandersson.com

Click on ABOUT, then on INTERVIEW on the left side. Then take a look at the photo gallery and look at his plane.

If it's a fake, not only is it VERY good, it's VERY elaborate. Because this pilot is kind of putting his reputation and career on the line by being a a part of it. I think his peers would call him out pretty fast if it was all a hoax, or some advertising stunt.

And the mystery continues.

This is an aviation website that considers the video to be fake.  I have been a pilot since the 1970's and even flew helicopters in the Army.  I'm not an aeronautical engineer, but I do have some experience with aviation and flying.  I have no definitive proof this video is fake, so I will not try to convince anyone any longer that it is, but nothing has convinced me that the video is real.

Hey Lee,

You're probably right. It probably is a fake. But it's fun to imagine. And as we said before, it's a definitely a good one. I did see something that said it was a campaign by the pilot's sponsor to deliberately create a 'viral video' - which makes sense.

I also found this interview of a F-15 pilot who lost a wing and still landed. The footage is obviously recreated for TV, but the interview sounds legitimate.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk1KBQ96_DI

And I know THIS one below is fake.  ; )

That's an amazing video.  My son in-law is a flight instructor and I know he'll love that video.  I'm going to send him the link..

Hi Jon: Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I'm sure you son-in-law will appreciate it. Check this photo. I'm sure he'll appreciate this one too.

Hi Gene: I'm with you. Fake or not, it's pretty amazing and worth watching.

Hi Georgina: Thanks for stopping by. Like I said in my original post, not only had I never seen anything like that, I'd never heard of anything like that. That I found that other link with the F-15 pilot who lost a wing an was able to land.

Hi Mike—I've been to many Air Shows over the years and this demo is one of the best! I watched it a couple of times looking for "trickery" which these days is relatively easy to do. I was wondering if the wing was designed to break-away the way it did as the break is too clean... when this usually happens there are signs of breakage and debris and this one did NOT show any evidence of that. Thanks for the thrill (real or not) - I love flying!

Hi Linda: Thanks for the comment. Yeah, this one is a hard one to call. And if it's a fake, it's a very good one. But if you love flying, you HAVE to check this one out... wingsuit. This should get your heart pumping. : )

I was involved in skydiving back in the 70s, and we were just starting to experiment with wings, and doing some crazy stuff - at least by the standards of those days. But never did anything like this cross our mind. These guys are just crazy!!!
