My wife Kathy and I spent most of our life working as teachers and organic farmers. We celebrated certain holidays and took a few vacations but mostly we worked hard and were thankful for the health to work. As we get older the energy to work 16 hours days has dwindled.
Have you ever noticed that when you have more time it is easier to worry about the state of the world, the state of your finances and even the aches and pains that remind you of your age when rolling out of bed in the morning.
Our dear friend Nancy has reminded Kathy and I that we need to celebrate more. So this morning as I began my day with the first killing frost and a potential buyer client who seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth I decided it was time to celebrate. My favorite way to celebrate is to think of something that will delight my lover. Kathy is an amazing women in so many ways. Her wonder and joy upon receiving even a very small surprise gift is brings me such joy and pleasure.
I have been keeping my eye on a bakery that is highly recommended and located only a mile from our house. Sweet Magnolia is located at 1050 Chinoe Village Shopping Center. As I walked in the front door I was swept away by the beauty of a covered pie plate. Kathy is a superb baker in her own right and I knew immediately this would be one of those delight inducing gifts.
The salivating induced display of pies and cakes were the next items to cause celebration. Kathy's favorite pie is pumpkin. I chose a pumpkin pie with a cream cheese swirled top. I am not a fan of pumpkin but this is no ordinary pumpkin pie. Its taste exceeds it beauty. Kathy did not disappoint. .
The picture above is of Connie with some of her wonderful creations and the covered pie plate. Connie bakes a large array of fruit pies, cakes, cookies, scones, muffins, bars, biscuits and yeast rolls. The Sweet Magnolia is aptly named and I will be making it a regular celebration stop. The phone number for "Sweet" is 1-800-943-4031 and the website is sweetmagnoliabakery.com. You can email Connie at firstname.lastname@example.org
