This upcoming election Avon Lake City Schools are asking voters to renew a 10-year, $3.4 million tax levy It is understood that the money will be used for operating expenses and is not a tax increase. Voters will be voting for or against the tax levy. For a $100,000 home, taxpayers would pay $118. If the levy passes, taxes will be taken out beginning in 2010.If the Levy passes it will provide Avon Lake Schools with $3.4 million a year for 10 years. So what this does is continues a fund to maintain schools as is and stay on pace with yearly demands. If it fails the school would most likely have to make cuts in staffing and the like to compensate for the loss.
In Avon they are doing the like. Issue 34 is a 1.99-mill emergency renewal operating levy which will generate $1.5 million a year for the next five years. Again funds here are to maintain routine cost involved in operating the school system over a period of time.
These are both important levies for two strong school systems.
