A fortune made and shared by the "I'm gonna SAVE you money!" guy

Growing up in Houston, I vividly remember the commercials by "Mattress Mack" owner of Gallery Furniture. His closing line was "I'm gonna SAVE YOU money!" and he was waving a wad of cash at you the viewer. This Sunday I got to see first hand what all that money bought. After twenty-five years of saving Texans money on furniture, he had saved a nice nest-egg himself.

So in order to share the wealth and make the world a better place, Mattress Mack opened up his personal vacation home for a Seton Hospital Fundraiser. There were three busloads of people that had paid to attend this event. During the ride to the house wine and water were served. At the mansion, we were served a variety of Hawaiian themed appetizers. The bartenders whipped up the Mack-atini's. Which is a tropical juice infused version of a Martini. There was a silent auction with numerous wonderful items that raised $30,000. The University of Texas Steel Drum Band played music from 5-10pm by the gorgeous pool. Some guests even arrived by helicopter!

The amazing main home is 26,000 square feet, and the separate guest house is 10,000 square feet. The compound is on several acres of waterfront land on Lake Travis's north shore, which is called Lago Vista. The main home has a four lane bowling alley, tennis court, boat dock and boat house, a pool/billiard room, multiple living areas (I lost count after walking through 5-6 living areas in the main house alone), a workout room, and the requisite huge theater room. The his and hers master closets were the size of most master bedrooms. The master had a lovely spacious sitting room with flat panel TV and a view of the lake. Actually every bedroom, living room and sitting room had a flat panel TV tucked onto a wall somewhere. The decoration was not over the top except in his daughter's room that was done in 50's "Rat Pack" style with lots of pink and black and Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra paintings. The home was very tastefully decorated and visually stunning, without being too grand or gaudy. This is their vacation home and not a full time residence, however it does have a full-time staff to maintain and care for the house. I am including some photos to share this lovely home with you. Dear Michael,

It was an amazing house. Now I know of someone with their own private helicopter!
