Is that what my house looks like now?! -- Another "Stay In Touch" Idea!

I was talking to my sister last week and during the conversation we got off topic and ended up discussing the homes we used to live in.  I think it is something we've all thought about from time to time and may have even said:

"I wonder what my old house looks like now...."

As I thought about it later - it occurred to me that this might be a great way to open up a door (no pun intended!) for prospecting former clients!   And right now, my budget for prospecting and "staying in touch" type campaigns is almost exhausted - so I came up with a different and very personal way to make contact with clients that wasn't too awful expensive! 

Although this can be done at any time of year, I decided that NOW is the "lull" before that time when many Realtors (and everyone else) gets ready to send out holiday cards.  Cards that may get lost in a pile of other cards!  And - I think - a great way to set yourself apart from the rest!

So here is what I did:

For my Seller clients: I drove to each of the homes that were sold and snapped a few photos of the outside as well as photos of any homes currently up for sale in the area.  I printed up a postcard of the current market condition of the Seller's old neighborhood and mailed it, the photos, my business card and a handwritten note that said:

"Thought you might want to know what's happened since you sold your home!"

For My Buyer clients:  I did something similar.   I snapped a few shots of their home and mailed it along with current market info for their neighborhood - as well as an old listing photo sheet and a business card - with a handwritten note that said:

"That was then, this is now!  Hope you are enjoying your home!"

The great part about doing it now was many of the homes were decorated for Halloween and it helped make the photos fun and hopefully, brought back fond memories for my Sellers and a smile for the Buyers!  The total cost per mailing (photos and all) - .55 cents each!  So if you have 40 clients - it will cost you no more than $22.00, some time and some gas!  And if you get one referral - you've more than covered that expense!

I have a few friends who recently drove by two houses that they used to live in (since they are still in the same area). They told me that they enjoy seeing how each homeowner adds his/her own touches.

I enjoyed your marketing idea...very clever!

What a clever idea. I have driven past my old house to see how its changed and was appalled to see they painted it pea soup green!?! Of course they kept my beautiful doors but their choice of paint color was atrocious! I will take a picture and come back to share it with you.
