Why is it that so many of us who live in tourist destinations don't bother to play tourist where we live? I live in Rocky Point/Puerto Penasco Mexico. We're on the Sea of Cortez surrounded by miles of desert, so naturally ATV riding is a popular activity.
I've seen people of all ages zipping around on their little open air 4 wheelers, and all I've thought was those look cool - thermostatically speaking. I never considered the actual experience and what was motivating all these people to rent these things.
Luckily I had a recent visitor with a taste for adventure. We rented some ATV's and headed out for nearby Cholla Bay. What a lot of fun! I was concerned that I don't drive a clutch. No problem. They're automatic and so easy to operate. After a few minutes to get comfortable with our machines we were off.
What a feeling of freedom, bobbing along with the wind in our helmets and the sun on our backs. We arrived in Cholla Bay all too soon. Exploring along the estuary we stopped to take pictures of a seal swimming along a rock outcropping. The seal seemed happy exploring the shoreline and undisturbed by the clicking of my camera. On a whim I reached out my hand and pet her back. She just looked back at me as she continued along, searching for tasty morsels.
Next stop JJ's Cantina. The whole town has a laid back, friendly feel and JJ's is no exception. Lunch involved relaxing was out on the patio where we could observe Pelicans up close, begging scraps from a local fisherman. After sating ourselved with a tasty meal and a liquid refreshment, we were back on the road to town.
We arrived home a little dusty, but no worse for wear. You know, they're really good on gas, and I'm sure many clients would love to go looking at properties in one.....hmmmmm.
