not the best agent

By
Real Estate Agent with Royal LePage Anchor Realty

If you are this kind of agent you are missing the point.

Not too long ago I had a couple looking for a home.  The property they wanted just didn't come together.  So they ended up buying another property.  The listing on the original home expired and a new company took over the listing.  The new listing agent took a copy of our original agreement of purchase and sale and use it to contact my clients directly. My clients told the agent that they had already bought a house. They weren't to happy that this agent came to their home and tried to get them back to the table.

I don't know about you, but I think that this agent was out of line.  If they wanted to get my clients back to the table and perhaps do a reverse offer, then they should have contacted the selling agent (me) not the clients directly.

It's agents like this that give the rest of us a bad name.  This agent was probably thinking of double ending the deal.  Greed is a very dangerous thing.  The only thing that should be on your mind is helping your client and doing the best job possible for them.  You must have some sort of code of ethics.  Sure you can make great money in real estate but please have a conscience. We are all out there trying to make a living.  If you don't want something done to you, then you probably shouldn't be doing it to someone else.

Poeple, please, BE PROFESSIONAL.  That is what will set you apart from the rest.

That's too bad and has happened I'm sure to a lot of people. Agents need to realize that there is so much business out there for all of us.

So do we Caren, but I agree with Paul - greed is a dangerous thing!

Nice to see you actively blogging Paul.  Great post, BTW!

Hey Paul,

Our offer states on line 1, if the drafter is a buyer's agent, seller's agent or dual agent.

In our state:  If you were buyer's agent, the other agent was out of line. He should have called you not the buyer.  If you were dual or seller's agent then he was making a choice that blew up in his face.

Glad you got the sale!

Paul, there needs to be a high level of integrity in our business.  The new agent should have contacted you from the beginning; you would have been the source of information for him/her.  By contacting your client they certainly violated the code of ethics.  I agree, agents like that do give everyone else a bad name.

Thanks Laurie and Jon, your comments are appreciated.  I only hope that other Realtors will soon get the message.  We should hold ourselves to a higher standard.  Once we do our clients will be the benefactors and inturn, so will we.

I absolutely agree with you. It has happened to me multiple times where other agents have contacted my buyers. It is absolutely against our code of ethics and yet agents like this sadly sometimes get away with it. Sorry about you experience, but glad you got the sale. I sincerely believe that agents like this will eventually get their share.

Thanks Zohreh,  I agree with you.  Sooner or later these agents get back what they put out.
