Do you have a vision?

What is your Vision?

If your goal is to stand out and attract clients, you must differentiate from your competition. To do so, you need to correct your vision. In other words, if your promise of service includes; delivering great customer service, staging your home for sale, effective marketing, apppropriate pricing, etc.; prospects have heard this before, so much so, that your marketing is being ignored.

You need to be inspired and go beyond the status quo, breaking conventional boundaries and challenging the ordinary, and that begins with creating a vision statement for your business. A vision statement gives a broad, aspirational image of the future that you're aiming to achieve. It should assert what your business can be at its best. It may define what is unique about you. An effective vision statement is vivid, something you can describe that people can picture in their minds. The statement itself is concise, motivating and memorable.

A vision statement for me?

While a vision statement doesn't tell you how you're going to get there, it does set the direction for your planning. Unlike a mission statement, a vision statement is for you, not for your customers.

Once written, it defines the direction in which to proceed. For example, a vision statement can be used to work "backwards" to develop a plan of action. Ask: "If this were the future, and this vision has happened, what was done?" "How did I get this outcome?" This helps avoid focusing on negative reactions such as how difficult or impossible it will be to do something.

The purpose of the vision statement is to inspire, energize, motivate, and stimulate your creativity, not to serve as a measuring stick for success; that is the job of your objectives and plans. The best ones describe outcomes that are years away and focus on a desired outcome at its completion date.

  • "To Become Recognized as the Neigbhorhood Expert"
  •  "To Help Families Build Wealth through Home Ownership"
  • "To Be the First Choice for Families in XYZ Neighborhood for Home Ownership"

Let your vision challenge conventional thinking. Too often, people get pinned to doing the same as everyone else. Instead, let the process of creating a vision be fun, wildly optimistic and with no limits. Just ask yourself, "What if...and...why not!"

I'm now in the twilight years of my career and find my vision to be very simple. Live well. Enjoy the Grand Kids and at least try to keep myself out of trouble :)

P.S. Welcome to Active Rain. Have FUN while you're here. It's the best way to approach this place :)
