Northwest Airlines Merges With Delta Airlines ~ Discount Airfare

By

airplaneI am a frequent flyer with NW Airlines and received an email from them yesterday that they are merging with Delta. Seems to be a lot of this going on lately huh?

My World Perks membership stays in place and I get to keep all of my accumulated miles, so that's encouraging. I just have to wonder about fare and service changes. Of course it is always a plus when fares drop and services improve but how often does that happen? I can only hope!

I also discovered Allegiant Airlines recently and wanted to share them with you. Their fares are rock bottom but they are very limited on routes and dates. Check out their link and service airports. I haven't flown with them yet but I have to question how they can offer such low fares. Maybe they don't allow baggage or carry on for that matter. And the windows open so the people with window seats can stick their arms out and flap like the birdies. But seriously...I will give them a try because they just started a Medford, OR. to Phoenix, AZ. route for $120 round trip! Amazing!!

Wow, another merger, I am not surprised.  I wonder how the airlines industry is faring right now.  Times have been tough for them ever since 9/11.  I hate flying and only do so when I must.  However, I am holding out for the day when they invent teleportation devices you see in sci fi movies or the Stargate show on sci fi.  I would rather be "faxed" over somewhere and risk being turned into a million particles rather than sit in a metal tube weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds soaring though the sky, defying all laws of gravity and sitting on a hundred tons of flammable jet fuel.

Lori,

I could tell you a story (a true story) about Allegiant but it would take a good 10 minutes to tell. They are bad news. :)

Steve- Do they really make you stick your arms out the windows and flap?

Richard- I believe you are right. I am sure it's not the last merge of the year.

Rebecca- You had me laughing for sure with the description of sitting in the metal tube with a hundred tons of fuel under my butt!

My husband just booked a flight on Allegiant to go visit his dad in the hospital in Las Vegas (from Redmond, OR).  He was sitting at the computer booking it and I hear "are you serious, I have to pay extra for a seat?".  He wasn't kidding.  Everything is truly a-la-cart.  You get a small carry-on and pay for anything else.  Don't know all the details, but the flight was a lot cheaper than any other available.

Seems that there are many mergers in the airline industry. Hope they let us combine the miles .

Gita- NWA informed me I can keep my miles but not sure about combining if say you had both NWA and Delta miles.

Hi Lori.  Have quizzed my husband a little on his Allegiant flight.  He was flying to Vegas on short notice to see his dad in the hospital.  With the short notice tickets were about $200 less on Allegiant than other airlines but about what we would have payed with regular notice on other airlines.  Although it was a-la-cart there were certain things you had to pay, like for a seat assignment even thought it was listed as an option.  Over all it seems like a good choice, just strangely organized in how they charge....Oh, and I think for Vegas you have to leave on Thursday night and come home on Sunday night.  Only those two flights available.  Simple and limited schedule may be how they keep prices down, to pack in as many as possible.

Terri- I am thinking so on the limited schedule. I was noticing the only have flights about 2 times a week. But the price is right and I am definatley going to try them out. Thanks so much for the update! Have a great day and sell a house my dear!

Terri I just had an inquiry about our Big Island Hawaii condo because Delta is now flying there direct from Portland and Seattle.  Check out their "deals" to warmth and sunshine!
