What Would You Do If Your Broker Said Stop Blogging?

Services for Real Estate Pros with Talk 2 Midori, LLC BK645709

Did you know that many businesses have banned some technologies.. technologies such as facebook, IM and Skype?

According to Peter Bradwell, a Demos researcher and author of the UK think tank demos report, believes that the benefits outweigh the risks.

He also pointed to the use of Facebook and LinkedIn in developing working relationships, although he admitted that a lot of organizations tend to ban these applications..

Read the full story because its really educational and useful!

I remember about a year ago..reports of bloggers being sued started to surface on the net.  Hmmm..look where we are at now...a lotta suing going on..enough to make a real estate broker nervous or even any business owner for that matter.

What would you do if your broker told you to stop blogging or else?

Would you throw the independent contractor card out or would you walk away..either meaning walking away from the conversation or walk away with your license in hand?

I got the willies just even thinking about having to make a choice like that..it would take me oh a whopping 5 seconds....I'm a pretty easy going person but whatever you do don't take my social networking away from me!

I think that would be pretty upsetting if that happened, especially since this is where the business is right now!  I suppose I would just have to find another broker in town (or pick one of the ones that have been recruiting me on a regular basis) that would allow me to continue doing what I do best!

I've read every comment. If told to quit blogging by my broker, I would do it in a minute and not even ask a quesiton. I see so many violations here on AR it wouldnt bother me a bit to quit blogging, Agents making up scenarios to game the system and press hot buttons to get points. Agents not holding their clients interests in strict confidence but blabbing all over the net the experience. Agents posting copyrighted material. My broker is a real estate attorney and knows the laws. If I were to cause his company to be sued due to a poorly worded post, that would be awful.

I think brokers should be checking on the violations their agents are committing on here.

" Bugging me to Blog"!! Blogging is where it's at!! It would never happen that he would ask me to stop. If your not closing escrows than you better be "Learning" My Broker rocks, He knows the value of education in this ever changing market.! And he practices what he preaches

So far, it hasn't been and issue with our office and my broker doesn't seem to mind. She does like to keep track of what I am putting out there though.

I guess as a Broker if I am hiring (so to speak) that don't share my values of image and service then I am setting myself up problems

My  mother used to say you are judge by the company you keep .. maybe mother was right about running a company.

Midori: I would have to think long and hard about that one... I don't plan to give up my social networking so I would have to think long and hard to see where I would hang my license

Well today was a good test being without Active Rain for a day !  Must admit I had some blog withdrawl !!!  I cannot imagine your question becoming reality but I guess it could.  At this point a small part of our business comes from the blog but it is growing more and more each month !

I have already heard of a couple instances of that happening.  I guess you have two choices, stop the activity or change brokers.  The beauty of the business, is that we can hang our shingle with anyone or by ourselves.

Honestly, I don't value my broker's opinion that much...sad but true.  It wouldn't bother me, I'd just pack my ditties and be on my way.  The brokers should be thankful that we are making money for them and they should also realize that they are NOT the employer!

Initially I would try to educate the broker and maybe work with them to develop a reasonable office policy. But if not, it would be pretty easy to find a tech-friendly office in Las Vegas. As long as our marketing meets ethical and legal requirements, the method of delivery really shouldn't matter.

I think there s liability in everything we do or say as Realtors.  However, our brokers are as liable as us for the things we are involved in when it comes to business practices. So, they have the right to protect their business and liabilities.  I wouldn't expect that personal blogging would ever come into contention. Since they set office procedures ad practices , we would have the right to leave but they have the right to enforce policies and procedures.

I am a broker-owner and will admit some folks do need to manage their blogging better ,  ie...not all day long.  And I also wish some agents would start blogging.

Wow, I don't know what I'd do.  Actually, I would have to move on to a broker who didn't try to put their agents in a tiny little box.  Fortunately I don't have that to deal with,

One of the cool things about working for a brokerage designed around new media and communications technologies... like blogging... is that the broker should never say stop.

This among many other reasons is why I am a broker. The first time I was with a company that said, we do not allow that, I was GONE!

I'd take my license and walk out the door. Having a Brokers license means I can walk out a bot easier.
